I can't Sleep

I often can't sleep. It is frustrating. I keep trying to use different ways to make myself sleep. Last night, I decided to use meditation. I was going to think about an orange. That was a bad plan. As I contemplated the orange, it suddenly became a dying sun in an unknown galaxy. A war was going on. Space ships zoomed around and things were exploding. I guess meditation is out. What do you do when you can't sleep. Does your mind do strange things? What goes on when you are trying to fall asleep?

Did you ever in a way to actually get enough sleep? I am puzzled as to why so many of us have the same problem with sleep.

I usually read if I can't sleep. I always keep some books next to my bed and sometimes I get sleepy while I am reading. If I still can't sleep I leave my bed and do something else. Sometimes I spend some time online.

@akalinus I always read before I sleep. Most of the time I just read a few chapters, but if the book is really interesting I sometimes read longer than I planned.

@Porcospino It depends on how tired I am or whatever. There are lots of factors at play here.

So your orange turned into a war in a distant galaxy in space. Are you sure you weren't asleep and dreaming? haha It's very rare I have nights I can't fall asleep (Sunday night always seems to be that day for me), but when those occasions pop up, I find that reading often helps. Lately, though, it seems that I find myself starting to fall asleep any time I try to take a survey on Swagbucks, so maybe I found my new cure for insomnia!

I get so interested in the book that I read until I pass out. An SB survey would put anybody to sleep. After the 32nd time they ask the same questions.

@moffittjc Surveys just take forever and half the time they don't credit and 45% of the time they tell you that not every survey can be a winner.

@akalinus I wish that SB would save all our answers on those surveys so that they could automatically populate them on every new survey we fill out. Then maybe they wouldn’t be so lazy no and boring and put people to sleep!

I used to count. Then it got too boring so I started spelling out words and rhyming and I was crawling through an alphabetic haze. Oh, I wish I could sleep.

At least you have a good start for a book. Though it sounds a bit Star Wars -y.

That is just one example of the things that keep me awake. I think the story has already been written but there might be a different princess and weirder characters if that is possible.

@just4him I was thinking of Star Wars when I wrote it. Of course, any that I write would have to be different.

@JudyEv I have noticed that. Our brains have more things to remember every night. Why did I say that in third grade? What was that under the porch when I was seven? I can remember weird stuff but not why I went upstairs.

That sounds wonderful but here, when I try to relax, the train goes roaring through blowing that whistle and shaking my room. I have tried saying the 23rd Psalm from the Bible and trying to imagine still water and green pastures. That helps sometimes.

I had this problem before and then I realized the more I get tensed about it and try hard to fall asleep the more problem aggravates. Trick which works for me is stop worrying about having insomnia. If you can't sleep just think of smth good. Imagine yourself on some nice beach with your feet soaking in warm sea water and gentle breeze caressing your skin or imagine the field of colorful flowers and you walking barefoot on the grass singing. Such thoughts relax our mind and tension slowly goes. Just stop thinking about need of falling asleep and it will come itself. Hope you will have nice sleep and sweet dreams tonight and every following nights

Sometimes it is attributed to our lifestyle, to our age, or to our health condition. It's good to see a doctor for that matter.

Well at times, I am fighting to keep away sleep, or get fresh when I awake. May be you need to eat a lighter dinner, have more veggies, dry fruits and fruits in your diet. Also have warm milk in the evening and cut tea or coffee.

I would suggest you to have a good long walk in the evening. When you're back, have a shower in hot or warm water. Drink loads of water to cool yourself. Then, have any interesting dinner. Just enjoy it and eat it. You can also drink one glass of warm milk. Don't rush even a bit. Take your time doing all these activities. Also, a small suggestion - in each of the above activity - just observe what you do. Don't let your mind to divert into the universe. Relax and calm yourself. If anybody could assist you with mild soothing massage, please seek help from them. When you do so, let your ears get tuned to soft, calming melodies. Think about you, the things that you've done for the day and think about the universe, but calmly!!!
