I Didn't Intend to Offend!

Ah, the wonders of the World Wide Web! World-wide indeed. It's so wonderful to be able to communicate with people from almost anywhere in the world, with the click of a mouse.
Once in awhile, misunderstandings will certainly happen. Language, cultural and other differences must be considered.
I noticed on my social media page that a friend (who lives in another country) would frequently respond to serious posts about illness, death in the family, etc., with LOL. I knew he was a caring, polite man. I couldn't understand why he would laugh at those kinds of posts!!
I soon learned that he was sending "lots of love" to me and my family.
Oh yes, that's much more appropriate (and appreciated).
Have any of you had internet misunderstandings like this?

I have always thought that using letters instead of words cause a lot of misunderstanding
