For quick weight reduction pearl barley comes to one's rescue. I need that now as I see I have put on a good amount of weight Don't ask me what caused it. If you think it is chocolates are the culprit I tend to agree Barley will let me not go on a diet as I have seen positive results with others around Just cook the barley, strain it, add lemon juice and a dash of honey and results will show. I have ordered for the stuff and no sooner I get it I will religiously consume it and I know results will show not more than in a month.

I love barley - but I think I've only used it in soup. I wonder if there is a chocolate with barley - that way it'd be a good balance .

@Fleura Ah, so use it in place of rice? I suppose barley would make it a healthier grain dish of risotto. Actually the chocolate barley pudding sounds kinda good - sort of like tapioca .

You can also use barley to make a dish like risotto. I imagine you could also make something like a rice pudding - maybe a chocolate version : )

Barely is a very common food here, it is added to soup, as in the Barely Soup of Grisons. I consume in moderation is like pasta as far as it concerns calories.

Barley for weight loss: Barley is a fibre-rich grain that's generally served as a rice substitute and is counted under the category of whole grains like oats and whole wheat that are known to shed kilos

@allknowing I remember we prepared barely water as a refreshing drink in summer, but nobody ever pretended it was for weight control. Barley water made from a cup of raw barley, that means a serving size of 200 grams, contains 704 calories, it's A LOT!

What is it about barley that has this effect? Or is it just that it's a good low-calorie high-fibre food to fill you up?

I haven't tried it. I would like to gain weight, not to lose weight. Do you know any foods that will help me gain weight?

@arunima25 I have yet to start on it. Remember drinking the water years ago and I do not remember what was done with the cooked barley. I prefer pearl barley

@allknowing I am okay to drink thick or eat it. I generally don't strain. And if I do I add the left over to kheer or thickened milk. How do you use it?? Mostly I bring powder.
