Bye My Little Blue Betta

My poor little Blue has passed away. My gut told me that him laying around on his plant leaf wasn't right but I thought maybe he was just lazy. I was cleaning his tank a while ago when I noticed him barely swimming and he was horizontal. I started freaking and quickly took him out of the aquarium into a plastic container I use sometimes when changing the water. He was still horizontal and after checking on him several times, I knew he wouldn't make it. He died about an hour later. And what did I do? I cried like a baby over a fish. But he was so personable, swimming up to the tank when he saw me and it looked like he was wagging his tail. C said he would go buy me another one but I don't want another one right now. So he is going to buy me a couple of female guppies for the big tank instead. I know I'm being really emotional but it just breaks my heart especially because I couldn't do anything to help.

I use to breed Betas--have you ever seen them during the laying of eggs process? It is like a ballet!! The male wraps himself around the female, squeezes the eggs out and then puts them into the bubble nest he built on the top of the water. Amazing!

I'm not sure. It could be age or it could be from a huge black Carpenter ant.

I am not surprised that you are upset, you had a relationship with him even if there was a glass between you, It is sad to lose something that brings us pleasure. I am not sure if fish have an afterlife however, heaven is where we are happy so for you, he may be waiting.

@simone10 Oh my poor baby, that is a bad thing. I never did know what killed my sweet honey (she was a dog) but I always wonder if it could have been prevented.

@BelleStarr was she getting old? There are a lot of mean people out there so there is always the chance of poisoning.

Awww, thank you so much! I really miss him. I found a huge black carpenter ant in his tank and I think either he got bit or he tried to eat it. I think that is what killed him.

Sorry about that. I had an aquarium years ago. Guppies will give you lots of fish.
