"Curable if caught early"

I reckon ya could call this a public service 'nnouncement 'f sorts. 'tis more like a personal plea though 'n I've hopes folks take such to heart. We're talkin' 'bout Cancer. I think such ought'a be a 4-letter word, fer I despise 't so. My heart sinks 'n my skin crawls e'ery time I hear 't. 'n the past 3 years, I've lost 4 folks dear to me coz 'f 't. All diagnosed 's Stage 4 cancers. Too late fer treatments, though some tried anyhow. Their time left'n earth 'twas short, the longest survived nearly 6 months. One 'f the hubs friends 'd been 'hoarse' fer nearly 8 months. Finally got'im to see a doc. Stage 4 throat cancer. He's been battlin' such fer nearly a year now 'n 's had e'ery complication known to mankind. Today his daughter called to say "any day now", 'n then he, too, will be gone. I think 'f all the surgeries he's endured. The medications 'n treatments that made him so ill. I wish 'im peace... The hubs brother 'tis also battlin' this cancer 'n fer the same reasons - he ignored the warnin' signs. He goes fer surgery ('fter weeks 'f chemo 'n radiation) this comin' Tuesday. He's also Stage 3 throat cancer. This's written not fer sympathy/'r empathy. This 'tis written to hopefully get folks to get those check-ups. Pay 'ttention to yer body 'n if'n somethin' seems amiss - get 't checked out asap. Don't play the 'wait and see' game that we all so oft do. Let's stop this cycle if'n we can. More folks die 'f preventable/or curable cancers'n any others. Let's get those check-ups 'n follow-up 'n any feelin's me might've that somethin' jest aint right with our bodies. *photo irrelevant to this post, but I adore dragonflies.

Not all forms of cancer can be treated, pancreatic cancer is a killer. Some cancers can be treated if people go to see the doctor as soon as they feel that something is wrong. My mom had stomach cancer, she had surgery before it spread to other organs and she lived another 27 years, she did not die of cancer.

@crazyhorseladycx I saved my mother. My father came in my dreams to tell me that Mom had a cancer and I had to do send her to a doctor. You cannot imagine how much I had to fight with my brother (he is a doctor) to convince him to check my mother. She had no symptoms, but another 15 days and the cancer would have spread to vital organs.

@crazyhorseladycx My brother never listens to me, he kept saying that you cannot have "premonitory dreams". He is so silly, I had many in my life.

Yeah, all too often we don't realize something is wrong because those symptoms come on so gradually that we don't pay any mind to them. Dragonflies are kool but they only come round if ya have mosquitoes.

yes ma'am, yer correct though some 've no symptoms 'til the damage's already done. the dragonflies hang out here coz i've a pond. they mate here'n lay there eggs'n said pond fer the next generation to develop 'n grow.

I want a cure for all cancer someday. I hate seeing people dropping like flies from it. So sad how many people in your life you have watched suffer and die with cancer lately. I am stubborn and rarely will go to the doctor except for med refills. I am going to be getting a job within a few months so I finally gave in and went to a doctor about a hernia, shoulder pain and a toe that needs surgery to correct it’s bend. I need to get this all looked at and taken care of before I work when I will lose the insurance I have.

@crazyhorseladycx its so sad people have to go without the care they need with how expensive insurance is and deductibles. I have the free government insurance and feel guilty using it so like the hernia I've put off having it looked at for 15 years.

'tis all our wishes 's nobody wishes to see anyone suffer with this disease - e'en strangers 'n those who've wronged's. i aint been too happy the past year 'r so 's the losses keep mountin' 'n so many others 're hangin' to see the outcomes. i'm purty stubborn myself ('n the hubs, but that'd be 'nother story fer 'nother time) 'n aint seen a doc since 2012. i know i'm'n trouble (listenin' to my body), but fer me, there jest aint the funds fer the tests that're needed. payin' health ins's nearly broke's. no way to pay the $6,350.00 deductible without losin' our arses. best 'f luck gettin' all fixed'p prior to yer employment.

@shaggin well, 'fore the 'affordable healthcare act' went 'nto effect, i'd health insurance. $3000 deductible 'n then 100%. that we could afford. once such 'act' became law, the health insurance premium tripled 'n the deductible more'n doubled. the insurance companies've made a fortune off subsidies - paid by taxpayers, 'n we still cannot get the care needed.

Let's also avoid chemicals, foods and habits that cause cancer and other diseases. Prevention is worth a pound of cure!

i hear ya, hon. seems we don't wanna be hypochondriacs, runnin' to the doc fer e'ery lil hiccup. the flip-side bein' that many thingies go left untreated 'n such leads to our demise.

i've watched many fight'n lose 'n whilst i 'dmired their desire to do such, i oft wonder if'n the battle (drastic surgeries, chemo, radiation) 'n pain/sufferin' such caused 'twas worth 't? i used to fear dragonflies (long story) 'n now see 'em fer the beautifully intriguin' critters they be.

@just4him i'm a cancer survivor myself, o'er 30yrs now. i'd great guilt 's those 'round me (dear friend, papaw, stepdad) succumbed to such 'n i lived. took me some time to come to terms with't all... reckon 't depends 'pon the cancer type(s) 'n jest what the odds 'd be. i aint much 'f a gambler these days. so glad yer grandson 'til alright. the stepdaughter jest dealt with thyroid cancer 'bout 3yrs 'go. she says she only endured all the treatments coz she's lil'uns still 't home 'n 'd not go through't 'gain regardless. i keep waitin' to see one, yet know 'tis too soon 'n the weathers been most iffy. i'll be out with camera though when one shows, lol.

@crazyhorseladycx I'm of the thought that when it's my time, I don't want anything to stand in my way of going home. I've heard so much about what chemo can do to a person. It's worse than the cure. I really don't want to go through that. As it's not in my side of the family, I don't think I need to worry about it. I'll be looking forward to the pictures of your dragonflies when they show up.

Great reminder. I know many that avoid doctors. My husband was one of them until 1) he got diabetes. This requires regular check in's with the dr. and 2) a stroke, another reason to get regular check ups. Sorry for all the losses of friends and family you have gone through.

My mother also is a victim of that disease as well. We fought it fir almost a decade and eventually succumbed to it due to her age and physical frailty. Your money is also factor that could decide you to quit the fight. Medicines and its treatment are just so high that only those that have the money could afford extension of their lives.

my deepest condolences'n the loss 'f yer sweet momma, hon. i hear ya, the cost 'f medical care 'tis absurd. 'tis not right that only certain folks can 'fford such. then 'gain, many folks with lots 'f money cannot beat this evil disease, despite the best 'f care.

You are so right. When I was 27 I went to my family doctor who had been our doctor for years. I went for one thing, and he asked me when was the last time I had a pap smear done. It had been two years. Long story short, I had cervical cancer and had to have a hysterectomy. If it wasn't for my doctor, I wouldn't be here now.

thanks, hon. yes ma'am, many 're 100% curable if'n caught early. dependin' 'pon the type, jest the removal 'tis all required. i've found that doc's don't tend to listen (like with my dad) 's we get older'n check fer thingies they might ought - 'til 'tis too late 'n such's spread. e'en then, they find the 1 'n don't look any further. i'm purty sure my dad's brain cancer'd already spread, but 't took a year 'fore such effected his lung function 'n they 'found' that....
