Hard work or Smart work....???

I am more of a smart worker than hard worker. A week ago one my colleagues got promoted, when enquired about the reason for his promotion, mostly everyone said, he is a hard working fellow. Not that I have a doubt or an issue but I do have a question..... If someone does same work in a smart way and wind it up early, isn't that person suppose to be rewarded. The person who works all day long to do the same thing is termed as hardworking. This fact needs to corrected.... I and my other friend was disappointed seeing this... But what to do, he was tagged hardworking...

I can understand how you feel. But sometimes we need luck to make things work in our way

Yes, I agree and some times the the manipulations and buttering the higher up also helps...if I am not wrong! It takes guts to call a Spade a Spade! Most of the times people try to please the bosses by their yes man ship! That sucks!

Whether you're hardworking or smart working employee, the award system is the basis for recognizing the worker or employee. There are basis for promotion and hardworking is one of the factors I presume.

I agree to that, but if you keep on working for the entire day, and term it as hard working...that isn't justified. I mean then what about smart working people....

@Aansh13 Hardworking, smartness in working practically is not necessarily the basis for promotion. It's the personal style of an employee in doing his job. Whether hardworking or smart working, as long as the expected efficiency and performance of the job is attained, he would be a candidate for promotion.

@Aansh13 , Oh that way!! You tend to get such people every where who tryb to impress their higher ups as if they have completed the work which was otherwise impossible to finish without them! We need to face such people every day every where in our lives! No?

The point here isn't exactly about hardwork or smart work... It's more about showing of that you are working more hours as in working hard... But that particular work can be done within hours... If done smartly....

Hardwork or smart work... I can't call one superior to other. Each one has their own skill and own way to handle things. Some hardworking people can not work smartly due to their certain limitations. And smart workers manage things better. But nothing is guaranteed to be a key to success till you have luck on your side. Also I am okay for your colleague getting a promotion as long as it does not involve unfair means of buttering and favoritism. This time luck favored a hard working person. So let's cheer for him! Next time it might pick a smart working one.

i am with you, as a lazy person, i prefer smart work. As bill gates said : I choose a lazy person to do a hard job, because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it. and that's how we work smart.
