My husband and I visited The Biltmore House in Asheville North Carolina this past week. It is a little over two hours away from where we live. Back in the 1980s, I had visited it with my family, but that was a long time ago. My husband had never seen it and wanted to, so that is where we went during his vacation from his job. The Biltmore House is a part of the Biltmore Estate. It was built for Millionaire George Washington Vanderbilt between 1889 and 1895. It is the largest privately owned home in the USA. The house has 178, 926 square feet. Vanderbilt's descendants still own it and it has been open for public viewing for a very long time. The tour within the house was amazing! All the different spacious rooms, floors were spectacular. They had a lot of help to keep it running in those days, maids, cooks, gardeners etc. When we viewed the kitchens and laundry areas of the house, I thought of Downtown Abbey and the kitchen scenes. The gardens were so pretty. There are two hotels on the estate. But, we didn't stay there. We stayed in a hotel in Asheville. There is also a Winery. We did some wine tasting. We were so surprised at how big that Wine Tasting area was! I think there were about 40 people Wine Tasting at the same time! Have you ever been to the Biltmore House? I took the picture with my cell phone.

Sad to say I’ve heard of it, but have never visited. We have visited many castles in Europe.

@LeaPea2417 Omg! So many in England, Scotland, Ireland, and France. They are covered with castles. My favorites were Dunrobin and Glamis castles in Scotland. Dunrobin was on the North Sea, and Glamis is the home of the Earl and Countess of Strath ore and Kinghome. They still live there.

I have been there when I was a child. It was summer time, and I got so hot I fainted. But the place was still really neat.

My husband and I went a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I'd love to go back again, but it's about six hours away.
