I have been ‘in’ for race these days to get an admission for my son as he passed the 12th class. One thing I clearly understand during the process, Education is one of the highest profitable businesses among the world. I realized this truth when my son stated his play school at the age of 2 plus. It took me so long years to understand it clearly how people run the business in a high margin of profit. I don’t have any interest to make you bore with my discoveries in the field of education. However I would like to ask you, how about the business (education) in your part of the globe. What about our country. I openly said this to head of a coaching Centre this time. He smiled on me but did not give any comment. Everywhere, education institution is making money. On applying for higher education, each subject, need a big amount just for applying. Just imagine how much money they are making from the initial process of admission.

@AKRao24 The head of the coach said to me fifteen thousand is nothing. I immediately replied, it is lot for me. The children who has no money for coaching will be out from the race. It is a sad situation.

I have received plenty of phone calls, in the name of counselling when 12th exams started. I said to them, he is not even finished his exams and how can he spend time for you. Each and every coaching centre, charging 18k onward for just one 2 months coaching. If you took admission prior (before starting 12th exam) then you would have paid nearly 30k.

I can understand this thing now as I have just put my 2 and half year daughter in play group. Everything is kind of business. They are telling me to take uniform and books from the school , it is kind of compulsory, and yes with quite high price which I can get in less from outside. Surely part of business.

They insisit to get every thing from school. The quality is not good with dress. We can buy it from outside comparatively in a less price. This is just a beginning and you will surprise on coming years. How much money you may need for her. When new academic year starts, school will take high fees, in the name of building development fund, maintenance charges etc. Last year, younger son's school charged Rs. 15100 and this year Rs. 16500 (for first quarter payment).

@akp100 Who is there to question it? No parents are ready to question the shcool authority and get bad names or spoil their children's future. So they do whatever they wish. Just imagine, for building fund they charges Rs. 5000/- per student, just imagine their income. They can build a new building with this amount easily.

@Sreekala That's too bad. How can they charge maintenance charges of buildings from us when we are already giving fees?! This is too bad. In my time it wasn't this bad.

Education in public school is free, elementary, high school, and tertiary. They're all funded by our government.

You are 101% right. In these day education is business not social service. In old days many peoples starts school and collage only to do social service. But at present it is purely business. They are charging high fee but paying lowest amount to staff. My wife was teacher in a private school so I know much about it.

I am not saying they have to do free service, but charging so high is not justified. Then paying lower wages to the teachers, who are making much efforts also not justified.

I agree setting up a school is costly. But once you can make the money then you can gain back the profit within no time.

Yes, true , education is a big business for all sectors especially the private institutions for tuition fees are higher. They earn much in miscellaneous alone and other add ons every now and then and the materials, equipment are the same, computers the same buildings the same. There are only few improvements except updates of fees and other fees. In the past, I went to the office of the higher education to apply for a license to operate a school. I never continued because of the million bond. I lack capital. There is no school that turn bankrupt, none.

You mean, if we start a school then we need huge money? Schools know how to get money. My elder son took humanity stream and the school charged laboratory fees for him as well. There is no lab activities for humanities section, you know it. This way, they charged fees for all unnecessary things. When he completed 12th I thought there will be relief for me. Now I realized more expenses are on the way. For applying for higher studies, each subject is chargeable under the same university. Coaching class, as entrance exams are there, I am really tired up already. The admission is still on process, he wrote two tests and more on the way.

It is an absolute truth. You can buy diplomas even. Sad that children from poor families cannot afford education just because of lack of money.

Yes, that is the sad part, poor children can't reach these places. Even in middle class family people are struggling for making the fees for education.

In India it is costly, especially higher education. You need to send children for coaching for getting admission, as they do entrance exam for getting admitted for higher studies.
