Can I get some help, and an eyeliner here?

Welcome to one of the more unique review posts that I've done. My reviews of various eyeliners and mental health warmline. So I will start with the more sober of the topics, the warmline. Without boring you with the details - I was having a rough day the past Wednesday. I had just gone to my own therapist, and then got some unsettling news after that. And, well, me, being me - I sat there and worried the rest of the time. Not just about that. About everything else that possibly could go wrong. I was not in a good state. I feel really weird about asking friends for help, but I did try to call a friend and she didn't answer the phone. So, I thought I will try a warmline. What is a mental health warmline? Well, unlike the hotlines (which, if I understand right, are reserved for emergency type situations) a warmline is for someone with a mental health condition who needs someone to listen. In this state it's peer run. Other people with mental health conditions are trained to answer the phone, so they can give "real life experience" rather than the formal dr. talk that professionals offer at times. And yes, for those wondering I do have OCD and Anxiety. So I was a little disappointed as "Don", my warmline operator for the evening explained that you are limited to 1 call a day for a month - and then - if you use those up - you are limited to 1 call a week after that. I do see the need for some rules, of course, because I'm sure there are some people who would be on the phone all day. "Don" further disappointed me by saying that calls are limited to 20 minutes. Excuse me? 20 minutes? Dudes! I need 20 minutes to explain what's happening here because it's a complex situation! Anyway. I did the best I could to be concise and "Don" did offer a few statements that have helped me. So for that I'm thankful. Faye's rating 3 out of 5 stars. Now for the fun topic. Eyeliner! A little prefix on this. Most days I wear a swipe of eyeliner and chapstick and that is my make up for the day. I love the type of eyeliner that comes in a felt tipped marker style appliance. I had a wonderful L'Oreal eyeliner in such a style - that made wonderful lines and applied easily and lasted forever. In spite of my using it almost daily - it lasted me 2 years. So, I thought I would simply re-purchase it. Wrong. They stopped making it. (Maybe because it lasted 2 years and you didn't have to buy one often) So here's a review of all the not quite right eyeliners I've tried since. NYX (in the marker) A fine product, makes a nice pointed line. However be prepared to buy one appx. weekly. NYX (in the bottle) Brush is hard to make a nice line or draw straight. Dries "shiny" and flakes off. Tends to feel wet a long time. L'Oreal Black Velvet The felt tip is very thick. Great for making heavy, dark smudgey lines, Blurry . Something tells me that angsty teen agers would love this. Maybelline Kajal My most recent, I thought this was a marker style pen. Instead after purchase I see that it is a very odd pencil. You are intended to use the side of the lengthy soft - charcoal type tip to draw your line. Its... alright but this leaves my question … I just want a marker style eyeliner that doesn't run out weekly and cost over, say $15. This shouldn't be this difficult. lol. Photo: Pixabay

that's seems silly to have such a short limit for the warmline :/ it's difficult to explain anything in that short amount of time as for eyeliner, I use the eyeko skinny liquid marker and it's pretty good, dries quickly which is why I like it.

@isweartokira Thanks anyway, it's all good. :-) Did the Scandaleyes hurt to put on? Sometimes with pencils they feel sharp and "stabby" lol

So true, right? Sometimes it's hard to be concise. Hmm, eyeko - I haven't seen the brand before. Where is it sold? I want to check it out

@FayeHazel ahhh i don't actually know where it's sold, I got it as a gift once and it's lasted this long, sorry other good ones I've used in the past were Rimmel London Scandaleyes (cheap and good but it's a skinny chisel tip, not brush marker) and ciate london starstruck (but it's kind of pricey ) you might be able to find something online. there are some good discount online makeup stores that I use sometimes. I'd send a link but I don't think I'm allowed to do that.

Never heard of the warmline calls. That is great even though there are limits. It helps to talk to someone who truly understands. As for the eyeliner, I do not like the wet ones, they don't last long enough for me. I use a brow pencil. It works for me as I don't like a bold line around my eyes.

So true, even though there are limits, at least it is helpful. I loved that the people on the phone were people with mental health issues, too. Oh brow pencil, I've never used one, but that makes sense that you could use it

I've never heard of a warmline before...Seems like an OK idea but to put limits on it? That sounds like it would just make things worse for some people. It seems to me that if you feel the need to call a line, it should be unlimited. About the eyeliner...I barely know what it is so I'm not qualified to comment on it but I will anyway. I don't see why they can't keep making the good one that lasts for two years. Our lightbulbs last way longer now...Since I started using these new strange bulbs, I hardly ever have to change them and when you drop them, they don't break! Well, maybe you don't drop them but I do...and the lightbulb makers are still doing fine so the eyeliner people should be OK, too, with a long-lasting product.

@FayeHazel Yeah, that system needs fine tuning...The time limit must make things worse. At least for some. It would work in a SNL skit but not when you're trying to help real people. That's sad about your bras and jeans...but since you didn't mention any other clothes, I'm assuming everything else is OK and that's something. I used to have a bottle of Orbitz, I think it got lost in my last move along with a lot of other irreplaceable things. I saved it because I had a feeling that it would be really valuable and it looked so cool with all those little bits floating around. I'm surprised they stopped making Corn On The Cob popcorn. Maybe they'll bring it back.

@xander6464 Actually that would be good for a skit. Totally SNL , Mad TV or Monty Python's. lol. Gr. True, other clothing I can still find stuff I like. Aw so cool! You had a bottle of the Orbitz. It looked so cool, like a lava lamp. I saved a label off of a bottle I had for years. Sorry you lost so much stuff in your move - that really bites. That corn on the cob popcorn was magic. I hope they do make it again

Oh yeah, - I don't know if this is a new thing or what. Cool idea though. I almost thought on calling the mental health hotline, but I'm not sure - those seem like they are for more dire of situations. Anyhow I would tend to agree... I can see the need for some guidelines on call frequency and length... but 20 minutes seems somewhat inappropriate. If it is a situation that needs explaining (and it seems that all situations would be, unless you simply say "I'm anxious" or something lol) - 20 minutes is barely enough. That sort of amazes me. I agree with you. Lightbulb companies are alright, so give me back my eyeliner already

This was the first I’ve heard of warmline calls, but if it helps, I am all for them. The time constraint is a bit tight though. I use a double felt eyeliner, one side thick, the other thin, but they cost more than what you want to pay.

@FayeHazel I hope it all works out. I still think it’s a great option. I love my felt tipped eyeliners, but use a little trick. I line under my upper lid with a waterproof pencil first. Sometimes I don’t need the other eyeliner depending on the look I want.

My feelings too, not sure how much help can be had in 20 minutes, but it is better than none..... maybe they will revise their rules eventually. Your double felt liner sounds nice.... ah yes I'm running into problems finding one I like at a price I like

@DianneN Thanks! That sounds like a good trick. Have you found a comfortable pencil you like? So many of the pencil types I've tried feel sharp and stabby or maybe that's just the nature of it

@FayeHazel I see Don was not there to help you but explain what the rules are. I would have hung up and thought of someone else to talk to. That is so frustrating. I hate when they stop making things and have to find something else close to what you had. The pencil does not sound good. I am sorry you are having all this trouble.

Thank you dear Hanni - Ah yes. That was very much my impression with the Warmline. I wished there were a place where I could voice my opinion. In some happier news - I did find my favored eyeliner just recently. Great! I'm happy.

I have to use a waterproof liner as my eyes tear a lot. I have used the marker types, but I can't seem to get the right line thickness - I mess it up - so I like the thin brush type. The warmline sounds helpful though yah, the time max does seem short - 20 minutes flies by quick. I guess we could use myLot as a warmline . . . no time limits here!

@FayeHazel The thing is there seems to be less of the brush kind these days - there are more of those marker types available. I wish I could get those markers to work right on me! Well, if you ever want to tell your story, you know friends will be here to listen .

That's too bad about the limits on the warmline, but glad Don helped a little. I don't wear eye liner every day, but when I do, it's a soft blue/green pencil. I do the underlining of the top lid which looks very natural, but gives me a little color and seems to accent my blue eyes.

@FayeHazel If I try to line the top lid above the lashes, it never looks right, but when I use it at the base of the lashes from underneath, it looks much more natural.

So true, I found the time limit a little inappropriate but... there was a bit of help anyway. Oh that blue/green pencil sounds pretty. I agree - normally I just do the top lid too. Great idea with the color

Never heard of warmline. I did an article on Textbroker once about an app called TalkSpace. But it costs to do it. I don't wear eyeliner. I don't like when things you like is no longer made. I want to try some new lipstick by Almay, but I haven't gotten to try it yet.

I wonder if warmlines are a new thing then? Interesting. Is TalkSpace a similar idea? (Go on there, get help)? So true. Seems like once I find a bra, jeans or pants, that I like - they stop making it. I hope you like the Almay lipstick once you try it
