Crud...She Noticed

My mom asked me for the third time in two weeks today if I’m depressed. I’m actually quite badly depressed but I denied it. If I’d said yes, I wouldn’t have been met with any caring or concern - just more screaming and increased efforts to make me miserable. Want to know why she believes I’m depressed? It’s not that she pays attention to how I act, she doesn’t care enough about anyone except herself to notice things like that. She says she knows because I’m not cleaning enough! That doesn’t mean much, her complaints about my cleaning skills are a multiple time a day thing. She believes the house must be cleaned each day - including vacuuming, mopping, polishing furniture, new sheets on beds, and dusting. Oh and washing all dishes, glasses, and silverware by hand. OCD all the way.

A house shouldn't be cleaned each day. New sheets on beds each day? This is too much. Why are you depressed?

I think you need to make plans to separate from mom pronto. You don't need to be her punching bag. My sympathies!

@rakski I’m in Missouri and when I move, it will be to Florida with my fiancé. 13 glorious hours away. And my mom barely drives and doesn’t fly!

Me or her? All I can do is laugh at her. As for me, I’ll pull out of it soon enough.

In my opinion cleaning all the time is a clear sign of OCD. I am not a cleaning freak too. But we have to deal with our moms sometimes.

Life WILL get better. The fact that you can recognize that her cleaning obsession is unhealthy is a very good sign for your future!
