Best fried catfish ever!

My husband went fishing in the river near us yesterday and caught several big catfish. So, guess what we had for dinner today? Yep, fresh hot fried catfish. I cooked a pot of stewed potatoes and fried some corn bread. Sadly, no more of my husband's world famous hushpuppies now that gluten is off limits. But it was so good, I ate way too much. But I'll eat light tonight, that catfish was worth it! Do you like catfish? My husband fillets it so there aren't any bones. There's a little cafe in Arkansas that cooks catfish almost as good as my husband's. The only thing I don't like about that place is they serve a whole, peeled, raw onion on a dish next to your meal. Not for me. Got an interesting "fish" tale?

Sounds absolutely delicious. We used to fish in our ponds and cook the fish for dinner. You cannot beat fresh fish, especially ones you caught yourself. I know many who eat the onion but I pass.

Right, the fresher the better. The raw onion on a plate is a mystery to me.

@1creekgirl A lot of people in the south will eat a fresh onion with many foods. Fish and sometimes beans as well.

Raw onion? Eww. Sorry, I don't like fish. I'd take some cornbread and some hush puppies though!

At that cafe in Arkansas, I always be sure to ask them to not bring me an onion.

I know catfish in some places might not be good, but around here when it's fresh and fried right, it's divine.

Can you believe that I have never ever had catfish! Not even once, but I have a feeling that you're telling me that I'm missing out on something really delicious.

Like I told NJChicaa, catfish can taste different in different places, but from our pond and river, it's really good.

@1creekgirl I think that holds true with most fish. The taste also depends on the time of the year the fish were caught too.

We love cat-fish! When Jay and I visited Baton Rouge, Louisiana we had some wonderful fried catfish, it was awesome! A raw onion on a dish? I wonder why they do that!

I imagine there are some delicious catfish dinners in Louisiana. I have no idea why they think everyone wants a raw onion.

@1creekgirl I don't mind raw onion on a burger or a hotdog. But, with fish? The smell alone would upset their dinner!
