Nail colors on toddlers

I'm truly found of nail colours. I like colours a lot. I have usually avoided putting the same on my nails since my pregnancy, keeping in mind that it should not affect the baby by any means. It just started with my sister introducing those nail colours to my 2 and half year old girl. I don't mind this. I came to a mindset that - it should not affect my girl when put occasionally. She started to like it and she finds it very interesting. I'm quite not sure if I can make this as a habit. Any advice? Have you used nail colours on your kids ?

Once I had my daughter have her nail art. but that's it. I let her try for her to experience because most of her peers were doing the same.

Yes.. may be if it's a great interest to her, I should let her do the stuff on her own .. I think it will take some years , though :)

@rakski - I understand. During my childhood, I too had different levels of interests and that fluctuates based on my mood. Like, I was very obsessed with having a Bob cut, since I usually had long hair and I had to plait my hair for schools. I envy my friends who'd short hair with those colourful head-bands... But later, I started to like growing long hair ... Had long enough for my friends and colleagues to call me ‘Rapunzel’ :D

@smileyhema yes, my daughter seems interested when she was younger but the interest wears off

No, I haven't. My wife and I prefer our nails to be naturally clean. Nail colors are fine, but we're not a fan. If it piqued your interest, I suggest you make it a habit. Experiment with colors and since your daughter likes it too, make it a bonding moment with you two.

No kids. But they do make safe nail polishes for kids. Maybe when they're older like 4-5 but once in awhile not all the time? That's my mindset now but unsure when I actually do have kids it can change.

@smileyhema Aww so precious! Yes, they have special kind of nail polishes that are safer for kids. No kids yet but hopefully in the next year or two.

Haha! Yeah, I understand your point. Our mindset do change. I had to compromise on many things for this little buddy! She will be so adamant and it takes some time for me to make her understand that few things are beyond the rules. And I did not know, we have special polishes for kids. That's worth the try when she is that old.

Personally speaking, we have little Miss here. But we don't encourage her to have nail arts. I think we tend to be a tad conservative with this concern.

@smileyhema I am feeling chuffed that you understand my point with this matter. Perhaps we can do this for her if having a special event at her school.

@Shavkat - even I was like you who'd planned not to use them or encourage on my girl.. but was checking what would be the impact and that I understand it's effect is huge...

@smileyhema I agree. Occasionally is fine. As long as it's not something like giving her acrylics then it's fine. As acrylics can ruin the nail.

Oh I see. Yes, I don't tend to put that often. I also understand it's bit harmful when it's swallowed ..

@smileyhema Oh yes I know about that and I love looking at them. When I was in school, there were a few groups of girls who loved doing this on each others arms. I love looking at all the designs.

Nail polishes may contain chemicals such as formaldehyde and pthalates, which are toxic if they're ingested. Adults do not suck their thumbs, kids do. I would avoid.

@smileyhema To paint the nails time by time for fun is not a problem, but not all the time.

In my opinion nail polish should not be used on kids. Once they are grown up they can use them.
