New Job Wants More Hours

So, my new boss emailed me to let me know my hours today and it would be 7:45 to 4:45 ... with a one hour break. 3 days a week. That's 9 hours at work per day. I'd told her previously I would prefer shifts 6 hours or less. At least to start out.
So I had to write her back to remind her of this. I even said I would do 7 hours if necessary. I did so very politely but now I am scared she will write back and say that's the only way they will hire me, if I work more hours.
I honestly don't know if I can handle 9 hours away from my house at this point so I'm scared. I've been off on medical leave for months now and she doesn't know this, and I don't want to tell her.
I don't know what to do now...

You are not required to give details of your medical past, so legally they can't ask about that. I would just keep it very vague and say that due to other commitments and obligations, you can only work 6 hours per day.

@MissNikki That is good to hear that they worked with you instead of just saying take it or leave it. I hope it all works out for you and that you enjoy working there!

Well we came to a bit of a compromise - on days that it is possible, they will let me go home early. Other days, I work 6 hours plus a one hour break. So it is working thus far anyway. Thanks!

@MissNikki If you are able to, please update on how that goes! I'm so sorry this has scared you. I can only imagine as you've already got the job. I just hope she is able to allow you to do the hours you are comfortable with!

I understand your delimma. I went and helped people down size their places and I went more than I wanted to and it was more hours than I wanted to and it wore me out and I felt horrible so unless you need the job you should stick to what you want to work.

Hopefully, they'll accept you doing 6-7 hour shifts. I can understand being a little scared. It can be difficult and scary when you start working again. You have let them know. Hopefully, it goes well. All you can do is be honest with yourself and them.

You should be honest with her so she doesn't think that you're just being difficult.
