New Job Wants More Hours

So, my new boss emailed me to let me know my hours today and it would be 7:45 to 4:45 ... with a one hour break. 3 days a week. That's 9 hours at work per day. I'd told her previously I would prefer shifts 6 hours or less. At least to start out. So I had to write her back to remind her of this. I even said I would do 7 hours if necessary. I did so very politely but now I am scared she will write back and say that's the only way they will hire me, if I work more hours. I honestly don't know if I can handle 9 hours away from my house at this point so I'm scared. I've been off on medical leave for months now and she doesn't know this, and I don't want to tell her. I don't know what to do now... (Photo is of me in early May)

It is better if you say clearly about the time you can work for them. If you have health issues then that also taking into consideration. Speak to them frankly and do the best.

You are not required to give details of your medical past, so legally they can't ask about that. I would just keep it very vague and say that due to other commitments and obligations, you can only work 6 hours per day.

@MissNikki That is good to hear that they worked with you instead of just saying take it or leave it. I hope it all works out for you and that you enjoy working there!

Well we came to a bit of a compromise - on days that it is possible, they will let me go home early. Other days, I work 6 hours plus a one hour break. So it is working thus far anyway. Thanks!

@MissNikki I understand your delimma. I went and helped people down size their places and I went more than I wanted to and it was more hours than I wanted to and it wore me out and I felt horrible so unless you need the job you should stick to what you want to work.

Hopefully, they'll accept you doing 6-7 hour shifts. I can understand being a little scared. It can be difficult and scary when you start working again. You have let them know. Hopefully, it goes well. All you can do is be honest with yourself and them.

Judy is right, you must tell her that you have been on medical leave for months and you are not sure you can stay at work for 9 hours.

If she pushes back you might want to tell her why you can't work the long days, hopefully she will understand and maybe down the road you could work longer hours. Why so serious in the picture?
