Spa Day

Tomorrow, it will be my privilege to go and help put on a spa day for special girls at Camp Special Touch. We do this once a year and the girls love it. After they are all prettied up, they can choose a dress or costume and get their photo taken. It is our chance to make them feel pampered and loved. I won't be here on myLot tomorrow because it is a couple of hours away and we stop somewhere for dinner on the way home. I love the camp, the young women, the leaders, and the organizer Kim who runs a thrift store that benefits missionaries. Please send good thoughts or prayers for safety and that the girls have a great time to remember.

Sometimes, we see the same girls year after year and see that they have grown or made progress with their goals. It is beautiful to see.

@just4him No one discusses what handicaps they might have. That is confidential medical info but some of them seem so normal that I wonder about them.

@amandajay Maybe I can grab a photo or two. I can't show any of the women because that is confidential also but I could get pictures with no one identifiable. Or of the room or outside by the lake or wherever.

@Tina30219 You could check around to see what volunteer jobs there are in your area. I used to volunteer at the thrift store. It was volunteer, no one got paid.

@akalinus I know that they are looking for volunteers for a trip. Adults with special needs and volunteers travel together. I can't travel at the moment, but maybe I can find something else - something that takes place during the day.

You might want to check around to see if they need volunteers for things in your area. There are all kinds of ways to help. People can pick what interests them.

Yes, they do and we try to make them all queen for the day. There are prizes and gifts for all. No one leaves empty-handed unless their caregivers end up holding everything.
