Do you really know who lives with you?

My place actually had rain the other day. Due to the rain and my laziness I didn't get out and remove a deceased rodent off my front deck. A magpie swooped in and winged the rodent to the top of the front yard tree. Garbage removal! Thank you very much. I stepped out of my car last night and spotted movement in under some dead shrubs that line the fence. (Good sparrow habitat.) I looked closer and first time ever at my present address, saw a little brownish snake slither away. I have a lovely honey berry shrub that grew sweet tiny blue-purple berries. I thought I'd gather some for a batch of pancakes. Robins sailed in, their minds on their own bellies. The brats didn't save one single berry for me. And these are the outdoor residents. Never mind on the indoor folks.

Anytime, my son drives up in our driveway around 10 or 11 pm, he tells me he always sees a mama rabbit in our front yard. We wonder where it's rabbit hole is and if it has babies.

Sneaky bunny probably has kids some where, @LeahPea2417. In about 10 days my hubby and I are going to be first in Beaufort, South Carolina then Savannah, Georgia.

lol, my 'pologies, but i'd the need to giggle, particularly o'er the berries. the birds here're purty quick 'bout gatherin' all the grapes 'fore i can. used to make me a tad cranky'n i'd run 'em off 'n get what i needed (when the young'uns were home - made lots 'f jellies 'n raisins). these days i welcome 'em. ick'n the deceased rodent. not fer certain what sort'a snakes'd be 'round yer neck 'f the woods?? i've a few varieties here 'n get 'long with 'em all.

@sallypup yes ma'am, got rattlers 'f various kinds, bull nose snakes 'n a couple others. 'round the pond i've grass snakes 'f sorts?? don't look 'kin to those i grew'p with back'n the hills, but that'd be what the hubs calls 'em. yup, if'n yer gonna get any fer yerself, yer gonna need to net 'em. i did so one year 'n a lil bird got caught'n such'n i didn't find't 'til 'twas too late. ne'er used 't 'gain 'n jest let 'em 've their fill.

@crazyhorseladycx That is an issue, the birds getting caught. I buried bird parts and rodent parts today thanks to bad luck and cats.

@crazyhorseladycx Rattle snakes live in my area. How about you? I guess you just don't sneak up on those kinds of critters. I'm glad you got a giggle. First time ever my grape vine looks intent on handing out more than a couple of grapes. Maybe I'll need to buy some netting for it.

@sallypup Here, we have weeds galore. I hadn't realized that there were some lizards hiding underneath . . . they would scamper away when I passed through. So for now we're not mowing.

@much2say Yes. I mow my property with the wild things in mind. I live the sage brush clumps alone cause of them.

I now have my strawberry patch covered because of those rotten birds.

@sallypup Right now all of my chickens are staying in. But they do love the berries. If they would get out it keeps them away too.

@wolfgirl569 We have had a huge issue with two of our hens getting free no matter what we do. One hen in particular has a system figured out.

@wolfgirl569 One of my hens keeps getting out. She makes a beeline for the strawberry patch. I hope I find berries in a couple of weeks.

I have rabbits, squirrels, snakes, rats, coyotes, turkey and sometimes deer. All kinds of birds. I will share the blackberries with the animals.

Squirrels sometimes run down our hall. They are neat little animals. If I looked close enough I might find a snake. I sometimes see a lizard under the shrubbery.

Some are helpers (the magpie); and some are stealers (the robins).
