Be Yourself

Be Yourself. People do not have to like you. And you don't have to care. How do you like the flowers in my hair? Sharing another quote for the challenge I started awhile back. I like this one. For years I often worried about what others thought of me, if I was good enough, did they like me, if not, why not.... then one day I woke up and realized life is too short to really care. It started after losing my son, Dustin. When your world is completely shattered and you survive to tell about it, not much else matters. Your entire attitude and focus changes. Life has taught me many lessons.

I'm so sorry about your son. You're right, though. Many people spend their time worrying about whether someone likes them or not when it really doesn't matter.

I know what you mean, I wish I had learned years ago that the only person whose opinion matters is mine. I would not have wasted s much time trying to get people to like me.

I like your outlook in life; you still think positively though you had gone such low situation when you lost your son. It's inspiring!

@CarolDM for me, age has a lot to do with it. I was always extremely shy growing up and I always took everything personally. I wanted everyone to like me. But how I looked at life changed after menopause.

I spent 67 years trying to be good enough and somehow always missed the mark. Thus, I didn't measure up in this world! Well guess what, I stopped caring what others say or think! If they like me, that's wonderful! And if they don't like me, that's wonderful, also!

@CarolDM I wasted a lot of years, being ashamed of myself. Now I realize, I'm just like everyone else.

I used to worry about what people thought of me but as I get older the less I care. I do as I want and others can do the same.

I have to "find myself" first before I can be myself. There is nothing more tragic for a mother than losing her child. Must have been devastating. It's good that you have move pass it (the grieving part)

This is an amazing quote. You are right caring too much can bring worries, which in turn affects you only! As they say "Ignorance is bliss" and not being bothered by what others say or think means mastering the art of ignoring everything, which in any way can bother you!

Yes, life really is too short to really care what others think of us! We were taught the expression "It is not my business what others think of me" and that helped a lot. Losing a child will really make a difference in our attitude towards most things. Sometimes we are not happy with the lessons life teaches.
