Spa Day, a huge Success

Yesterday, it was my privilege to help put on a spa day for handicapped girls and young women at a camp called Special Touch. They enjoyed the works, from getting their feet washed, painting nails, trying on makeup, and getting their hair spiffed up. In the end, they tried on jewelry and accessories to pretty up for photos which they got to take home with them. There were prizes and gifts along the way and they all had a good time and are looking forward to next year's spa day. I think that we were blessed beyond what the girls experienced. Do you volunteer time for anything or thinking about it? For some reason, the photo won't post. I cropped it and the crop won't post. I took the photo so there is no copyright issue.

It is so much fun. Even if you volunteer for a day, you will love it.

It sounds great, and I am glad that all the girls had a good time. I have a been a volunteer language teacher for foreigners in my country. My students left language school and they don't need help anymore, but I still talk to them sometimes.

@akalinus They have become quite good at Danish, but sometimes they need help with official letters and things like that. I still help sometimes even though they aren't my students anymore. You are right, it is nice to have someone to talk to. I have lived in other countries than my own, and I was grateful for the help I received.

It is good that they know that you are there to talk to. Sometimes, that means more than what they are saying.

I think that they all did. It was kind of silly the way they arranged the camp schedule though. Many of the ladies had their hair done and the next activity was swimming. But they looked nice for their photos and they were pampered and cared for.

@Tina30219 Yes, they truly do. I am glad we can do that for them one day a year. They are so precious.

That is awesome. The homeless especially need help. Lots of helpless animals need someone to care also.

no frettin' o'er the photo, i fight with such near constant. 'tis a wonderful thingy to donate yer time fer such a cause. i used to, but without bein' able to drive much such aint possible. nobody wishes to drive 'all the way out there??' to come'n fetch me. therefore, i'm a more 'hind the scenes'n fundin' kinda gal. i'm sure all're anticipatin' next years fun.

@crazyhorseladycx I am happy that they are willing to pick me up. I did pitch in for gas. I am unhappy about myLot photos not working half the time especially since I took one just for this post.

I tried two different photos. Something is wrong with my images. I don't know what is going on. I have to figure it out. I am lucky that I don't live too far off the beaten path so someone did pick me up. It is a joy to see the same girls year after year. They remember us, too.

That sounds like a nice fun event. I looked into volunteering, but everything I seem to like looks at it like some job application and want these crazy qualifications. I guess it is how many try to get gainfully employed so they get so many people they started making it like a real job. I am like what the hell.

That does seem like a wonderful way to volunteer. These days I don't volunteer, I always thought I would when I retired but I just don't have it in me these days.

Check if the photo is less than 3MB, sometimes the photos are very big, what counts is that it MUST be under 3MB.

@akalinus 3.2 is too much, I suppose that the others you posted were all smaller. I am sorry if you lost the photo.

@akalinus Try to do this online here
Resize a JPG, BMP, GIF or PNG image online. Reduce image size to share it with friends or upload it to your social networks or websites.

I can only get it to 3.2MB. I have never had this trouble before. I don't know if I messed something up or an update destroyed things or what. I can save a copy but it does not appear in my downloads. I am beyond upset by this mess. Ready to throw in the towel.

That's so lovely. I used to volunteer at a camp in NJ as a counselor for kids with special needs. I used to volunteer at an outpatient rehab center for 5 years to help out with admin work and with the PTs.

Even doing it sometimes is a welcome break from your normal routine, the daily grind.
