Day 7 Hebrews 7 Hebrews 7:1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most-High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abides a priest continually. 4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. 5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: 6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. 7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. 8 And here men who die receive tithes; but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. 9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receives tithes, paid tithes in Abraham. 10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchizedek met him. 11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron? 12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. 13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertains to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah; of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood. 15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchizedek there arises another priest, 16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. 17 For he testifies, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. 18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. 19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. 20 And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest: 21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord swore and will not repent, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek:) 22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. 23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: 24 But this man, because he continues ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost who come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them. 26 For such a high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 Who needs not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. 28 For the law makes men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, makes the Son, who is consecrated forevermore. Have you considered where the tithe started or why it’s necessary to pay tithes to your local churches? The writer of Hebrews gives a history lesson to his fellow Jews, showing them how Abraham paid a tenth of the spoils he received in the battle of the kings to Melchizedek, king of Salem. He told them the meaning of his name, and there was no known lineage for Melchizedek, no beginning or ending for him. Because there was nothing known about him, he is regarded as a type of Christ who has no beginning or end. It was to that king, Abraham paid his tithe, doing so before there was a law to do so. Melchizedek was not only a king, he as a high priest. God told David the Messiah would be a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Psalm 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. (KJV) God showed His people how the Messiah would be both priest and king, and He would receive the tithe of His people. As Christians, you come under a lot of scrutiny when you give your tithes as people believe you are throwing your money away and the church doesn’t need it. However, when you obey the law given before the law to give your tithe, God will bless you as Melchizedek blessed Abraham. You aren’t giving your tithe to the church. When Abraham gave the tenth of his spoils to Melchizedek, there wasn’t a tabernacle or law for him to do so. It wasn’t until Moses that the tithe became a law, and not for the sake of building up the tabernacle or the priesthood, but in obedience to God so He would bless His people. Consider what God will do for you when you give your tithe to Him. Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, says the LORD of hosts. 12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, says the LORD of hosts. (KJV) It is for a blessing that God commanded the tithe in the Law of Moses. It was the blessing Abraham received from Melchizedek. God wants to bless you. Do you want God’s blessing on your life? Let’s pray: Father, help me be obedient to You in everything, including my tithe so You will bless me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. This is great. I have been reading about Melchizedek but I don't know his descendant. Where did he come from? And why he is holding the highest order of the priesthood? Do you have any idea?

It's because no one knows his lineage that he is a type of Christ who is without beginning or end. It is also because Abraham gave him tithes of the spoils from the Kings' war that he was considered a high priest. In doing so, we see the type of Christ in his makeup as Jesus is the Son of God and without beginning and end and also our High Priest. Have a blessed day.
