Another Money Day

Yesterday the wife and I finally decided to go to the recycling center and turn in some bags of crushed aluminum cans we had accumulated. There were 7 bags, or 101 pounds of cans we turned in. Didn't run off with anything to tell the accountant about. But we still got $40.40 cents out of it. They were currently paying 40 cents per pound. Last time we went we got 50 cents per pound. Still, I'll take what I can get and $40 is $40 we did not have before we turned them in. We also had to pick up a few things at Menards, which is like a Home Depot or Lowes... But better. Among some other things we needed, I picked up a level. I thought I would pay about $60 for it, but found one for $8.99. When we got to the register the ticket spit out a rebate on that level for $8, and so we essentially got it for 99 cents. I'd call that a money day.

Definitely a money day, very nice savings on the level! And that's a nice amount on the cans!

Yeah, I was happy about the cans. It was 10 cents per pound less than the last time we took some in, but still worth it. The level turned out to be a surprise in both ways.

@MommyOfEli2013 I have been turning in cans for years and do quite well with it. A lot of the cans are free as well since I keep a bin by my desk in the office and the guys who drink tons of Monster energy drinks toss them in and I take them home and get the money for them.

I love those rebates, I have gotten buckets of paint free with those. About 2 weeks ago I was at home depot and bought 1x 4 x 10 for $1.00 each, regular $2.49. I took all they had and that was 24. I saved $35.76. I can`t pile up cans till I have 7 bags, I have no space, but I took in one bag and got $4 last week, they are paying .35 here but it paid for another pack of drinks for Tony.

I wonder, I used so see people stocking those cans and packing them in a big bags and that will be the same here...which will be sold for profit, that's nice additional earnings.

@andriaperry I love the rebates too. A few people have scoffed at them, saying, "Yeah, but you have to use the money in their store." I'm like, so what? It's not like there aren't things I regularly buy at Menards anyway, especially when the 11% rebate thing is going on, AND I have noticed they also still pay 11% on items purchased using rebate checks. So, it's win, win. As for the can thing, any money is good no matter the amount you turn in. The place I go to takes a while so it's better to have more than a few bags to make the time worthwhile. Hope the price for aluminum in your area goes up soon.

@ano460 I will sometimes take a walk and bring a bag with me to pick up any cans I might find...and you can always find cans lying around. I get my exercise AND make a little extra money to boot. Win, win. Plus the environment gets a little helping hand too. Win, win, win.

Spending money for me is not something I necessarily enjoy. It's a necessary evil. But I prefer to save money. BUT, I do enjoy being able to spend the interest and dividends money I already made makes.

Good for you! I don't know how much we made the last time cans were taken off. Currently, we don't have enough to make another trip though. That level was a great deal!

I do remember a few years back when we were getting 85 cents per pound for aluminum. Those were the good old days for sure.
