What bugs are bugging you the most these days?

I bought some dried mangoes at Trader Joe's yesterday. I enjoy them at room temperature, and would like to leave them on my counter, or in the cupboard, but I can't The reason? I have fruit flies living in my kitchen. They get really happy when I bring home fresh Granny Smith apples or bananas. And I know they'd go crazy for my dried mangoes. I don't have roaches here. And I don't have black widows living inside my house. I get visited by the occasional fly or bee, but they don't bother me much. But the fruit flies were driving me nuts until I started putting my fruit in the fridge. Do you have bugs in your life? Which is/are most bothersome to you. Also, did you study fruit flies in high school biology. We learned a bit about genetics by "raising" and studying fruit flies in my high school biology class.

Is that to keep them off the plants? Or do I just spray that where they're flying?

You have to put them into a ziploc bag so they cannot smell them, after you open that bag its damaged and they can get to them. Biting flies and nosee`ems. But I made myself repellent, and I sell it, all natural.

Ah, interesting. I'd ask you what's in it, but then I'd have to be your California franchise.

I do not have fruit flies, or other bugs in the house, but we have mosquitoes, horrible blood sucking little vampires.

@TheHorse We had almost none until the Nile mosquitoes invaded the area. They have treated a week ago and I see less now.

Nice description. We have them here in California, but not like we did in the Midwest (and the American South, I'm told).

We get fruit flies every once in a while, but right now the yellow flies are about to carry us away.

@TheHorse If anyone wants to introduce you, run for your life. They will aggravate the mess out of you and bite too.

@1creekgirl Do you have a picture? I wonder if we had them in Michigan (where I went to Summer Camp).

That's a shame, fruit doesn't taste as good if it's too cold. And you can't put bananas (a fruit fly favourite!) in the fridge as it makes them go black and nasty! The fruit flies in my house usually go for the compost bucket, because that's where the banana skins and squashy bits of over-ripe fruit go. I guess that's quite useful because it keeps them away from my food! And I empty it every day or two so it never becomes a real problem. And we have a lot of spiders in the house so they probably help! If I have anything around, such as a fruit smoothie I'm half-way through drinking, I cover it with one of those old-fashioned beaded nets (maybe you could get a bigger one to cover the fruit bowl?)

Yeah, I only buy one banana now when I go to Trader Joe's because I realize they get nasty quickly in the fridge. The humanity of it all.

I get this sticky tape type thing from the dollar store, that attracts the fruit flies and that's the end of that. But what really bugs me is the whiteflies that keep trying to suck the life out of my tropical hibiscis.
