The Rules Change from Final Destination 1 to 2

So I'm a huge fan of Final Destination. Liked one, two is my favorite, three the chick screams too much and four was predictable. I didn't even know there was a fifth but I do plan on watching it now that I have it lol. I just watched one and two and noticed something. In the second one, the way to cheat death's design is new life. Which works because the kids death at the end was not part of the original design, it was a separate one. In the first one it should have worked. Alex died when he grabbed that electrical wire and the cops brought him back. He was officially dead hence the white light and hallway before the airplane door opened up. So why does it work for the second movie but not the first?
