Lunch Out Today

Darling daughter and I went exploring today and found a cute little French café serving crepes. Now I have to admit that I really can't decide if I like crepes or pancakes better. I grew up on pancakes with homemade syrup that Dad made every year. I wish I knew just how good I had it!! Even Aunt Jemima can't beat Dad's syrup boiling over a wood fire. Now for the crepes... They were pretty good I must admit. Pair that up with no work in the creation and no work in the clean up, it's going to be hard to choose. Mine was filled with feta cheese, black olives and sundried tomatoes (a great combination) and there is still enough for dinner tonight. Now could I make them myself?? Probably not and I will be going back for their dessert crepes... just so I can really decide who would win. ;) If you had the choice and cost wasn't a factor, which would you choose?

Crepes, definitely. I like them sprinkled with lemon juice and sugar, or flambeed with Cointreau and a butter orange sauce.

@Hate2Iron Yes, that's definitely a decadent version. When they're made that way, they're called Crêpes Suzette.

I love pancakes and haven't really had crepes but I think I would enjoy dessert crepes.

I like crêpes better, I usually make crepes filled with ham, mushrooms and Béchamel sauce. It's not difficult to make crêpes, you need a little practice to make them thin.

My husband says that in England they used Yorkshire Pudding batter to make them. Will be giving that a try to see if I can make it work!

@Hate2Iron The ingredients are the same, but there are more eggs in the Yorkshire Pudding batter, I like the crêpes because they are light and you do not feel the smell of the eggs.

It certainly took me a long time before I ventured away from pancakes but I think they are now a favorite too. I do miss having dad's smoky variety of maple syrup! Need to use our new bottle very sparingly!!

Crepes are simple to make and I am sure you could easily manage it. I always choose crepes, my mom never made pancakes, she is French Canadian so crepes it was.

I'm surprised that my grandmother never introduced them to me. Her mother's family was from Quebec so it should have been something she was familiar with!!

I just love crepes, and would choose them over pancakes any time. I find crepes to be very filling.

Pancakes are easier than crepes to make. I love your combination with the feta cheese. I am not into too many sweet things.
