Since English is not my native language, so I only had such calls with my foreign teachers, otherwise I will talk in my native language in phone calls. Do you ever talk in English on the phone?

Yup English is not also our main language so when a call is answered the only english word spoken is "hello" then when we converse it will be on our own native language. But of course if someone talks to you in English you would respond in English as well.

If someone talks in English then we have to respond in English, otherwise he or she may not understand what we are talking

As I am in the capital city, most of the time I have to answer in local language . But some people who are not well versed with with local language then I have to speak to them in English. I know your answer will be "Thanks for sharing".
