Today I visited a second hand store. They sell clothes, bags, books, magazines and many other things. They have many old books, but most of them are only 20 or 30 years old.. Today I found a book from 1928. The book contains short stories for children, and it cost less than a dollar. The previous owner had written her name and address inside the book. I bought it, and I read a few of the stories when I got back to my home. I find it interesting to compare the stories to the stories that are written today. Some of the words are spelled differently and there were a few expressions that I had never heard before, but that isn't the only difference. The content of the stories is also very different. They are not just entertainment. They contain moral lessons, and they describe how the children are rewarded for doing the right things. In one of the stories girl a finds a wallet in the street. She decides to return it to the owner and she declines the gifts that the rich woman offers her. Instead the woman gives her 1000 kr ($150) as a Christmas gift. That was a huge amount at the time.

My mother has bought a book at a yard sale that was published in 1871. The book was about the Freemason.

I like yard sales. I have never found anything as old as the book your mother found, but I have found a lot of other things.

@Scrapper88 That is great. Sometimes it is possible to find interesting things and sell them. We are going to a fair this summer. In one of part of the area people sell second hand things. We always have a look at the things when we visit those places, and we have bought several things.

That is true. I have seen the same thing is other books. I have one of my grandmother's old books. It is also a short story collection and that book also contains stories that have moral lessons, and the children in the stories always learn something.

Yes, the stories are different than the stories children read today. The children in the stories are rewarded for doing the right things and they always learn something. When I go back to the second hand store I will check if there are other old books.

@LadyDuck Some children are very rude to adults. I saw some children at the library the other day. I will not repeat the words they used when they spoke the librarian, but they were completely out of line.

@Porcospino We need more books like those old books, our children need to learn to behave and stop being selfish.

I have sold a lot of books. I had so many and I couldn't keep them all, but I kept the ones that I used to belong to my grandmother. One of them is a gift she received in 1936.

I also love old books and magazines. I was surprised to find this book in the second hard store, most of the other books are newer. I am glad I bought it. I plan on reading the rest of stories tonight.

She is called Ingeborg Vollquartz, and she was a local author from my country. I don't really know her, but I think that she has written several books.

I have some old books that used to belong to my grandmother. I take good care of them. Some of them are very old (from her childhood or older)
