Day 3
1 Peter 3
1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them who do evil.
13 And who is he who will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man who asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed who falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
Women spend a lot of time and money to look nice. Most wouldn’t walk out of their home without their makeup on. We all want to look nice for the most important people in our lives.
In the culture of that time, women who dressed as Peter described were harlots and dressed to attract men for only one purpose. He saw those women who accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord dressing the same as they did before they accepted Him. He told them to adorn themselves in a pleasing manner, not as harlots.
As Christians, your adornment isn’t found in makeup which is attractive if done in a pleasing manner, but it’s found in how you present yourself – your integrity, morality, your faith in Jesus Christ. The adornment of an inward spirit dedicated to Jesus Christ is what you need to reflect back to those around you.
When you do, your husband, who might not know the Lord, will see how you present yourself, not only obedient to Christ but also obedient to him. Your behavior could save him.
As Christians, you will come under condemnation and in some cases, persecution. If you have done nothing wrong, you are to rejoice because your faith will bring the favor of God. Maybe not in this life, but in eternity.
As concerning baptism saving you as Peter spoke of here. It is not the sacrament of baptism found in the church, rather it is a different baptism Jesus referred to when James and John’s mother came to Him to ask for the best positions in His kingdom.
Matthew 20:20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
23 And he said unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
Jesus did not speak to them of physical baptism because he had already been baptized by John the Baptist at the beginning of His ministry. Instead, the baptism Jesus spoke about was the suffering He would endure in the trial and crucifixion for your salvation. It is that baptism which saves you. Standing firm in your faith, knowing Jesus will save you from every persecution coming your way, even if it means taking you to Himself as was the case with many early Christians who suffered in the Roman arenas for their faith, and even Peter who was crucified because of his association and faith in Jesus.
Can you go through that kind of baptism? Is your life an adornment, a reflection of your faith in Jesus Christ?
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for showing me the beauty You find attractive, the adornment of a soul committed to You. Help me live my life adorned with the inward beauty of faith. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Spiritually uplifting scripture! I am doing what the scripture is saying that the wife must submit herself to her husband and the husband in return must honor his wife.
