Yup, those cute lil black'n white 'cats' (reality - skunks) 're usually what'd come to mind. This morn whilst tryin' to visit folks here, I kept catchin' brief shots 'f color dartin' to'n fro'n my lil sanctuary. When the light hit such jest right, looked blue's a Blue Jay, but the size 'n speed 'twas all wrong. So's, 38 pics later (dang, these lil birds're quick!), I share with ya a pic 'f a Black and White Warbler (one'd think they'd a fancier name?) . Yup, must be confused?? 's their normal habitat 'd be deciduous forests. Not out here'n the arid High Plains 'f New Mexico. 'tis also said ('ccordin' to The Cornell Lab 'f Ornithology) they nest'n the ground near the bases 'f trees. I'm thinkin' this'un must be lost durin' migration?? Coz with all those feral cats a successful breedin' ground this'd not be. Here's more 'bout this lil cutie if'n ya've the desire to read'p'n 'em. I find this sight purty useful fer figurin' the feathered friends who come to visit.
One of the earliest-arriving migrant warblers, the Black-and-white Warbler’s thin, squeaky song is one of the first signs that spring birding has sprung. This crisply striped bundle of black and white feathers creeps along tree trunks and branches like a n

Oh how cool! Yes the birds can be very challenging to photograph. I have read about them and rarely see them here.

'bout the time i'd get 't focused, 'twas'n 'nother branch 'r 'ntire tree, lol. i'm hopin' to catch 't back here 'gain with fingers crossed fer a better top 'r e'en side view. we've the lil yellow'uns here (had?? aint seen 'em this year...danged cats...) 'n i finally, 'fter 10 yrs 'f tryin', got some decent pics 'f 'em last year 't the waterfall.

@crazyhorseladycx Yes especially the smaller birds. It take s a lot of patience. Cats are their biggest predators for sure. The waterfall? That would be cool to have nearby.

@CarolDM patience'n a steady hand. i've loads 'f the first, not so much'n the latter, lol. yes ma'am, the hubs herd 'f feral cats've not been kind to the birds here... though they'd be purty good 't gopher gettin'. i've a pond'n my lil sanctuary with a waterfall. not a roarin' 'un, more 'kin to a babblin' brook. the birds favorite place to shower 'n wash their prey.

@NJChicaa no such critters 'round these parts. did get a flock 'f peach face parrots come one horrid winter. i 'rrived home from work that morn'n a blizzard'n found my apple tree nearly completely covered by such a beautiful site. they spent the day here (shelter, food 'n water) 'n then flew off sometime'n the night when the storm'd passed.

@crazyhorseladycx The only bird I pay attention to is my parrot. And the osprey, sand pipers, sea gulls, and pelicans at the beach.

Oh my gah this little fluffy guy is so cute! I checked the link - this is not a bird we get here . . . don't see birds with any white in their coloring in our neighborhood). Yah, ground nesting doesn't sound like a good idea with ground critters lurking about - they most certainly wouldn't thrive here.

@crazyhorseladycx Yes, many of ours are in the black, brown, beige, gray families . . . some with mixed in reds, yellows, and greens at times. Any white would definitely stand out. Strangers 'n town - yep! I feel like I've heard of too many species getting confused about migration this year . . . weather/climate changes? I may have mentioned those Painted Lady butterflies - I heard they normally would not come our way but they did. I hope your little onesie finds others out there . . . !

@much2say i've been most dis'ppointed the bullock's orioles didn't return this spring. their bright yellow 'n shockin' black 'twas show stoppin'. i've very few hummers 't seems, too. i dunno if'n such'd be due to the weird weather all o'er, 'r the herd 'f cats... i've fingers crossed the orioles'll brave both 'n return when the grapes're ready. e'en the lil red housefinches 'f stayed clear :( dunno 'bout that sweet lil bird? could've a nest here 'n 'twas takin' said catch back to 'ts nest? one ne'er knows 's nature most oft finds a way.

yes ma'am, quite the cutie! somethin' diff'rent here's well 's i've ne'er seen one?? most'f our natives birds 're shades 'f creams, blacks'n browns. 'lways catches my eye when there'd be 'strangers' 'n town, lol. i'm hopin' this's one who'd jest gotten lost?? i've been keepin' one eye out fer others jest'n case.

mallard
That's cool! Not for the bird maybe, if it's lost, hopefully it'll find it's way back to where it's supposed to be. Didn't find anything that black and white in my pictures, but I found a picture of a mallard colour variation. It's quite different from usual mallards, I first thought it was a hybrid of some sort but it its variation that I've seen several places in Europe.

@crazyhorseladycx I've seen them in Vienna and different places in Germany. I think I also saw a duckling with the colour variation once, but as usual, I can't find the picture. It's probably on one of the other external harddrives. It should find a tree with really thin branches. Junipers should be good, at least the junipers we have here. But they're not trees as much as big bushes, so we might not have the same variety. Do you get juniper berries? The kind that takes years to get ripe?

@Torunn i fear i've ne'er been outside 'f the u.s.a. 'xcept fer that trek 'cross canada (not pleasant'n those days 's the 'alcan hiway' 'twas mostly dirt 'n gravel). back'n the hills from which i hale, mallards 're quite common. they might've some here't our zoo?? dunno, i've not been'n years. the critters 'bodes 'r most depressin'. no 'ttempts to make 'em natural lookin' habitats. yes ma'am, that'd be why i suspect such'd be hangin' out there. 'tis where the yellow'uns reside. i get berries 'n there'd be some birds who jest pass through who devour 'em jest'n a couple 'f days. trees're not native to these parts, 'tis plains the bison used to roam back'n the day.

thanks fer sharin' this! nope, i can say i've ne'er'n all my days seen a black'n white mallard. they've 'lways been most colorful. what a treat to see such :) i've not seen the lil darlin' today, so dunno if'n that meant such moved'n 'r i've 'd the misfortune 'f jest not seein' 'ts where'bouts. lots 'f thick foliage out'n my lil sanctuary. pine, maples, eastern red cedars 'n then there'd be all those danged vines, lol. there'd be rows 'f junipers 'n cedars 'long the edge 'f the drive, could perhaps be there? a lil safer 's the cats've troubles 't seems climbin' those.

@crazyhorseladycx I agree, the small ones move way too fast. I guess because they are so small they have to move fast to survive.

Now that I think about it... I don't think that I have seen a black and white bird around here. Lots of black ones, but not black and white. I will have to take my coffee out this afternoon and just watch to see if one decides to prove me wrong!!

I think I bookmarked that site on my phone. There are times I've wondered about a bird but one day I might want that more often. Better to be visited by a bird than a skunk or was it kitten, lol.

sure comes'n handy 'n quicker fer me'n the monster book i've got'n north american birds, lol. i've a resident skunk 'n family currently residin' out'n my big ol' hay barn (that the hubs's filled with 'schtuff' - now stinky coz either the cats 'r the fox 've disturbed said family numerous times...). oh kittens...i saw this morn that one'd finally'd her kittens. nary a clue's to where nor how many more're gonna be added to the 'collection'.

@crazyhorseladycx Could be finches, they are so small you can hardly see them . They stand on the tree and walk straight up the tree. I've never seen another bird do that.

how fortunate! 't times i get pics 'f birds that don't reside here, jest passin' through 'n lookin' fer respite. some're really camera shy'n the slightest hint 'f movement 'r hearin' that shutter'n there gone 'fore ya can blink. i was plum tickled this'un mostly came out so's one could 't least say 't looks to be a bird, lol. thanks!
