I have taken a new job! It pays $150,000/year!

Working with disadvantaged children and teaching at a local community college has been rewarding for me. I admit that. But the money is not that great, and I also admit that I want to retire comfortably. Therefore, I have taken a new job: "Email Scam Writer." It pays $150,000/year (more than I have ever made, excluding investments), and I can work from home. All I have to do is make scam emails like the attached seem credible. Because of my skill as a writer (I worked for my College newspaper, have published scholarly articles in reputed journals, and even reviewed a Frank Zappa concert for the Worcester H-T back in the '80s), securing this job was easy. I will attach the text of one of my most recent scam emails. My job is simply to correct this, and other similar emails, such that people will fall for them. I invite your help. What are the most obvious cues (to you) that this email is a scam? I will incorporate your comments into my efforts to make such scam emails more credible. I will donate half of my earnings to MyLot Payout, such that we can all be rich upon retiring from MyLot. Here is the email I am currently working on: Security Alert For your protection we have placed restriction on your Bank of America account due to irregular activities. Please visit Bank of America Online to verify your information as requested. Upon verification our security team will handle any discrepancies. Please note: Incomplete and incorrect data will lead to suspension of service. We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused. This is a service email from Bank of America. Please note tha t you may receive service em ails in accordance with your Bank of america service agreements. Whoever drafted that has apparently never seen a legitimate Bank of America email in their lifetime! I'd trust your new "employer" about as much as that adorable danger noodle in your picture. Is that a Northern Pacific rattler?

It is a juvenile Northern Pacific Rattler! How could you tell? I shooed him off the trail with a stick and then he coiled and watched me but didn't rattle any more. I think he could tell I was not interested in eating him.

@yukimori I've never met a Mojave Green. With my aging eyes flagging, it's probably best that I not meet one. In all honesty, I was hiking with a buddy when I met this little guy. I stepped right over him, and he just froze with his mouth open. I had my sunglasses on and didn't even see him until my friend said, "I think you just stepped over a rattlesnake." By the time I took this picture, my "feeling" was that he knew we were friend, not foe. A few months later, I had a kid out hiking (I'm a kid psychologist) and I sat down on a log. The log jiggled an area where an older Northern Pacific was relaxing, and he rattled at me in a way that clearly said, "I'm old and don't want to deal with this, but I just want to let you know I'm here." I continued to sit and said something reassuring as he slowly slithered away.

My Bank does not send emails, when they need to ask me something, they call me and if they need that I sign something or they need to verify something I go there. I think that some are too easy to scam.

It looks totally authentic to me. The only problem is that, as someone else pointed out, not everyone has a Bank of america account. So how about a paragraph about the Unified Banking Authority Of Official FDIC Records And Accounts and explaining how even if your bank is not Bank of america, you still have to verify all information and if you don't, the FBI will be notified and a warrant for your immediate arrest will be issued for Fraudulent Bank Practice?

@TheHorse It was that train. I wonder what the odds of that is. I don't know how you're going to be able to give $20 to orphans when you only have $10 million..you must have a very good accountant. I will get the orphanage address to you as soon as I double check everything. It seems to have a London address, which seems odd for a Nigerian orphanage. Also an odd name---The Outcall Tantric Asian Massage Nigerian Orphanage, Cranbourn Street, Leicester Square. That's where they want me to send the $10 but I still think someone might be confused somewhere so I wouldn't send any money there just yet.

@xander6464 Wait. Was that the train that was hit by a falling airplane, occupied by the Uncle of Barrister Mbalo, who is sending me $10 million US? We do indeed live in a small world. Just to outdo you (I am male and still feel this need), I will send $20 to the orphanage of your choice. When the cash arrives.

Why do this look like scam? Hmm, not sure. I would just assume it was spam and delete it. Unless it was real spam. Not sure what I'd do with it then, as I don't eat spam. Not even scammed spam.

This reminds me of one email I received from scammer. He said he'll give me his wealth because he's bedridden and dying and I was the lucky one he chose to inherit all his wealth. I replied, "I'm rich. Give it to the needy." Of course there was no response, but after few months, I saw the email and sent another one, "Are you still alive?" Regarding emails from banks, I always receive so many emails, but I always ignore them. I go to the bank instead.

Yeppers, that's why they hired me. I pointed these things out to them. Pretty incredible that scam artists can't do their thing in proper English. And with proper graphics. And pretty scary if they ever learn to do so.

Do they really pay that much for scam e-mails? Wow! It's easy to spot it's a scam e-mail. You mention not to contact Bank of America. You also put spaces in some words. Good cues it's a scam.
