Red Texas Sage, Spanish Broom
United States
June 17, 2019 1:59pm CST
I know what'cher thinkin', such needs a dire trimmin'. There'd 'nly be so many hours'n a day 'n the ability to tend to all's still minimal. This'd be where the hummers're hangin' whilst they wait fer the Desert Willow 'n Trumpet Vine to begin blossomin' full force. That purty lil red thingy'd be a Red Texas Sage 'n shall bloom proficiently 'til frost comes. Sadly, that yellow'un 'nly blossoms a short time. When these blossoms 're done, they'll be no more 'til next year. 'n the meantime though, ya can sure soak'n that lovely perfume 'f this Spanish Broom. Does keep that airy foliage, which's quite lovely'n 'ts own. The latter 'f which 'tis'n interestin' history 's 'tis deemed 'nvasive'n places with Mediterranean climates. Phew, thank heavens I reside'n the high plains arid country. Such can be used's a dye, the fibers turned to cloth, flavorin' 'n essential oil called genet absolute. The cut flowers'll 'lso fill yer home'n heavenly delight (watch fer bees...) 'n bring that bright sunshine right 'ndoors 's they'll last 'bout a week.

i like 'em a bit wild, too. would'ja guess there'd 'lso be lavender planted 'round? lol, those're currently semi-buried 'nder all that danged grass. needs to be tended, i plead laziness 'n not wishin' to disturb the lil critters who rely'n 'em fer their food. yer welcome :)

@wolfgirl569 same here. used to've a beautiful front yard with large flower beds 'n loads 'f color 'n textural 'nterest. the severe drought did most'n. i've now no desire fer 'curb appeal'.

thanks :) i've trimmed 'round 'em a few weeks back, jest aint been out'n front fer a while. the lil hummers love the red sage, but'll partake'n the sweetness 'f the spanish broom 's well. 'tis quite the hub 'f activity ~ lots 'f butterflies 'n bees 're there, too.

@RubyHawk no ma'am, i truly don't though could prolly get by with trimmin' such?? the spanish broom 'tis jest a beaut when'n full bloom. sadly here'n these arid climes ones gotta get out'n the early morn hours to 'ppreciate all the scents. they evaporate way too quickly :(

thanks, ms. ruby! i took some cuttin's off the spanish broom to bring 'ndoors. not too many 's the bees'n other wee 'nsects 'njoy 'em, too. i need to do more trimmin' 'round those two bushes coz i've lavender buried out there'n all that grass. if'n i don't, they'll not get 'nough sunlight'n get straggly lookin', possibly e'en jest die.

@crazyhorseladycx You don't want your lavender to get too straggly. They perfume the whole yard. I don't know anything about Spanish broom. I know broom sage.

thanks :) i fear autumn here 'tis a crap shoot 'f sorts, sorta like spring. one day 'tis the heat 'f summer with the next a hard freeze/'r ice storm. plays that game 'til usually 'bout mid december?? so glad ya got some rain finally! i aint familiar with the flowers there'n yer country. 're they native? do ya got a pic 'f 'em? if'n y'ave a pic, the good ol' 'nternet 'll help ya figure what such'd be.

oh, not trimmin' 'f those bloomin' shrubs, 'tis the grasses growin' with 'em that needs a serious haircut. there'd be lavender'n there somewhere. i can smell 't, catch glimpses 'f purple blossoms'n that'd be 't, lol. i'd like to see 'bout gettin' cuttin's off these to grow more.

thanks :) the plants 'emselves 're not needin' the trimmin', jest the grasses that're growin' 'n seem 'ntent to take o'er (the hubs planted bermuda out here years 'go 'n such's taken o'er much 'f my universe...). the red sage's no fragrance i can detect?? the hummers 'dore 'em, 's well 's the bees'n others. the spanish broom donated a few blossoms fer me to bring 'ndoors. added a couple roses 'n some others fer a quaint lil gatherin' to fill my vase.

thanks :) yes ma'am, they 'dore such. i've 'nother 'bout that size by the front door. right now they'd be flyin' 'twixt the sage 'n the now bloomin' trumpet vines. they rarely stop't the feeders. don't blame 'em, who could resist mother nature's gift 'f sweetness?
