Question: What is the difference between hot chocolate and cocoa? Then, if you know the difference, which do you prefer for drinks and cooking? Isn't hot chocolate cheaper then cocoa? I guess if buying at Dollar Tree, they'd be the same. I guess I could have googled, but I would like your opinions. Thanks! photo by pixabay

Hot cocoa is usually made from cocoa powder, sugar, and milk. Hot chocolate is melted chocolate.

Would chocolate be more refined than cocoa?

@Spontaneo Less pure. More chemically refined.

@JohnRoberts I get your point now. I guess I simply need to find out if I'd like cocoa sometime soon. I just find hot chocolate to be cheap. Easy to throw a packet in my iced coffee to create an iced mocha. Very tasty!
