1894 - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is formed
1868 - Christopher Latham Sholes received a patent for an invention he called the "Type-Writer".
1957 - Frances McDormand was born. She is an American actress that has won the Triple Crown of Acting with her 2 Academy Awards, 2 Primetime Emmys and 1 Tony Award. She was Marge Gunderson in Fargo. Other movies: Mississippi Burning, Almost Famous, North Country, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. She has also starred on Broadway and on television.
1995 - Jonas Salk passed away (born 1914). He discovered and developed one of the first polio vaccines.
