My first Opera

So this past weekend I attended my very first opera. Since I've never been to one before I wasn't sure what to expect but my wife, Mom, and I made the trek to Miami Beach to check out Miami Music Festivals rendition of Osvaldo Golijov's Ainadamar.
We got their early, picked up our reserved seating tickets, and settled in for the show. I kind of wish we would have chose different seats because we were right behind the conductor - a couple rows back. Since they didn't have a "pit" for the orchestral, it was kind of distracting watching the conductor's movements. But it was also kind of neat because he really got into it.
Once the performance started though I was in awe of the performers. It's hard to believe their voices. I didn't understand what they were saying but there were sub-titles so a novice like myself could follow along. The opera theme was about a Spanish playwright and his muse during the Spanish Civil War. Although the theme was kind of dark, it was very, very interesting to watch.
In all, I had a great time and it's something that I'll do again given the opportunity, especially if I'm able to get the tickets through VetTix
