My First Appraisal

United Kingdom

Each year, we have an appraisal at work. I've been there for a little over a year and a half so this is the first time I have had an appraisal. It was described to me, by a colleague, as barely more than a tick-box exercise. There is a list of criteria which we are expected to meet, and we must demonstrate that we have met them. The appraisal was like that, in part, although it was also somewhat productive. My manager seems to be happy with me. She has recognised my thirst for knowledge and my need to learn. She asked me about my intentions for the next 12 months. I said that I did not intend to change anything in the next year as there is already enough going on in my life. I did, however, talk about some things I would like to do in the future. We agreed that I could be more actively involved in a couple of things. I did a bit of showing off! I discovered that my manager actually reads some of the work I create outside of my office job, so that's nice. She seems to like it. There was actually a lot of positivity that came out of this 2 hour long meeting. I won't go into too great detail suffice to say that I am doing even better than I thought. There may be chances for me to flourish! Usually, I am talking about how proud I am of my children. Today (well, this was yesterday), I am proud of myself. More than just going to work and doing my job, I am going 'above and beyond', building working relationships, helping colleagues, using initiative, creating solutions, and much more - most of it without even realising it! What have you done recently to make yourself proud?

How wonderful. I like a nice garden. I'm not very good at gardening, though, so my garden is full of nettles that are taller than me. It must be wonderful to be able to plant and grow your own flowers.

Thank you. I am always proud of my children. It's lovely to see them grow up so well. It's nice, though, to recognise our own achievements outside of raising amazing children :)

@pumpkinjam I just started with Virily; but I don't like it anywhere near as much as I like MyLot; so I don't know if I'm going to stay. My blog would be another place that I write.
