Something Old, Something New

Something borrowed, something Blue I don't know about blue, but it goes with the rhyme. No, I'm not getting married. Nor am I going to a wedding. I am working on a book, however. An old book. I'm making something new from the old. I'm borrowing from the old to make the new and I'm not being blue about it any longer. The book I'm working on is the second one I wrote after Scarred. Or I should say the second one finished after Scarred. I had a few in progress at the time, five to be exact. I have many more than that now. Those five are finished, including the one I've been working on for the past week. However, I started gagging on it. Yes, it's part romance and I'm not good with romance. I needed to make changes to the content and the title. A revamping of an old book is taking place. I have the first chapter finished or almost finished. I'll read it again today when I start work on it to see how it's going. I took from two chapters of the old book to make the first chapter of the new. The new title is Triumph and Tragedy. No, it's not a romance. It's a mystery. The old title was More Than a Conqueror. I won't delete the book, but I will be gleaning the good parts of it to make a better and stronger book. So, it is a marriage in a sense as I am merging the two to make one great book. Have you found something you're doing wasn't working and you needed to do something drastic to make things better? Thanks for reading. I still have all of yesterday's notifications to do, but I'm going to work on Triumph and Tragedy for now. I hope to be back as right now I have 100 notifications left. I've been at it since I got home from the pool this morning. Maybe I'll look for a cover for this book. Image courtesy of Pixabay - My logo.

What a good idea, I am glad you figured what would make it work.

Thank you. I've been more depressed by the day with it and knew I needed to do something to get this better than it was. It's working now.

@DianneN It should be. The mystery part of the book I never had a problem with. The relationship between the main characters I did. I'm not writing a 187 page gag me with a spoon romance. Though I do have one of those started and you read the first chapter or two of it last year. I'm hoping to get back to it and make it a good book.

Thanks. It's already much better than the original. I might just throw out the original altogether as I get further into it. I've now gleaned from three chapters and am on chapter 2.

Every time I write something and I read later, I re-write from scratch. I never like what I write.

@just4him I have this problem since I was a kid in school. When I had to write something, when I finally read what I wrote, I threw it and wrote something completely different.

@LadyDuck There was only one school paper I rewrote because it wasn't a good paper to show anyone and I told my teacher the one I handed her was the same as the one I deliberately left home. Though it wasn't.

That is real dedication to your work. I think that it would be easier to start a new book, but using the best parts of this book will hopefully give you a really great finished product. I've starting things and then quit and given up, I think that we all have.

What a wonderful title. I have thought about doing that - making new from old. I haven't done it but you have made me rethink the decision. I think you have a terrific idea. Sometimes when we are not quite satisfied with the way a book has turned out we need to please ourselves and rearrange and change to make the book all that it can be.

@just4him Valerie, that is very cool. Yes when I read the title you said I think of a wedding. So glad you explained it to us and that is really cool. I cannot think of something now but I am sure that has happened to me with projects I was working on. That they needed change to make them better.
