"The human brain is the command center for the human nervous system. It receives signals from the body's sensory organs and outputs information to the muscles. " https://www.livescience.com/29365-human-brain.html I have always found the brain fascinating, especially from a psychological perspective. When I was earning my Master's degrees in human services and counseling, just the simple understanding of how the brain works made my studies understandable and applicable. Now, as I work with youth (in education and counseling), I am even more determined to understand the brain and human development. We are often bewildered as to why young people make so many wrong/bad choices. Much of it has to do with their environment and upbringing, but equally as influencing is the state of the brain during this stage of life. I wonder how many educators, ministers, and parents could make their job easier if they took time out to seriously study brain development. I recently attended a seminar on the dangers of vaping, especially among young people. The doctor who led the presentation was able to answer so many questions when she included the physical formation of the brain and how it relates to the environment. I plan to attend more seminars and do much studying on my own to be better equipped to handle any issue I may encounter as an educator and counselor.
