Grandbabies Are A Gift

I used to dread growing older. I love being a mommy, but in my younger years, was not thrilled about becoming a grandmother. To me, grandmother was synonymous with old.
Now that I am a grandmother, I can honestly say it is one of the most honorable positions ever. I am blessed with good children and they take care of their children which allows me the privilege of just being Grams. So many grandparents, today, have to be parents to their grandchildren because the grandbabies parents are negligent or absent. I love being the Grams who babies and coddles our little ones. Of course, I always strive to support their parents and not undermine their family rules.
Here are some advantages to being a grandparent:
1. You can develop a friendship with your grandparents. I remember my grandmother being one of my best friends. She always listened and offered loving advice. When I was younger, she always took me to lunch and then for icecream one day a week. When I became a teen, she took me and my boyfriend to supper and then a movie every Saturday night. Now I take my grandkids out twice a month, and then have one day a week that I get to spend a couple of hours with each of them.
2. Grandkids help you tap into the fountain of youth. We get to be kids again. We get to laugh and express our inner youth that the world seems to forget we still have.
3. We get to express our uniqueness. With grandkids we can be ourselves and they will love us for it. While others in the world and even family may criticize or make fun, our grandkids love the real us.
4. Grandparents are treated with VIP status. Anytime our grandkids get to see us, they think it is awesome. We don't have to prove ourselves. Our grandbabies know we love them and getting to spend time with us is something to which they look forward.
5. It is said that grandparents live longer. We all live for love. Those grandbabies will keep us going when we feel we have nothing left to give.
So if you are a grandparent, embrace this time of life. Love your grown babies and their babies. Live, pray, and love with abandon.
