I Find This Suspicious

As I mentioned recently, my husband's phone number was hijacked putting his phone out of service and allowing hackers to gain access to his bank account. He pays the bills via the bank's app on his phone. About $6,000 in e-transfers were made before I figured out what happened and got the phone company set straight. The weird thing is the timing. My husband gets paid every two weeks. He pays the bills and has a bit left over for groceries. A lot of the time he goes into the overdraft for a few days before getting paid again. BUT, at the time his phone was hijacked we had just purchased a second house. We got a new mortgage and a substantial bit of money (including a paycheque) was deposited into his account. I find the timing awfully suspicious. Almost as if someone KNEW he was going to have that money. I have more than he did in my personal account as I just received my first bit of inheritance money. They could have gotten a lot more from me. Plus, the "person" the money was transferred to is a French name or company. My husband's family is French (the house we bought was his parents'). I can't help but think that someone in his camp is responsible. The timing just seems too suspicious. Any other time there would have been no money to steal. Anyone agree with me?

He is from a very small French village. Everyone knows one another... mostly their related in some way or another. I think everyone knew he was buying the house. Whether anyone knew he was getting more than just the cost of the house, I have no idea.

I do agree and I sure hope you can get this all straightened out. It makes things worse when something like this happens and it might be someone who knows you.

It could be a co-incidence but that seems unlikely. It must be difficult to accept that someone you know (and, presumable, trust) has done this. There's the slight possibility that it was someone outside of your/your husband's circle who happened to know someone who knows someone, trying to make it look like it's been done by another person or that it could be someone within a company that's aware of the transactions (bank/mortgage lender) but that's unlikely. I would be inclined to agree that it is too suspicious to be just co-incidence.

I agree with you. Too suspicious for my liking. I hope all the money was returned by the bank when they realized the fraud taking place.

Yes you will really suspect that and think about the transactions too.

All the transactions were made to the same person. It shouldn't be too hard for the bank to trace. As for the name, my husband doesn't recognize it but that doesn't mean anything.
