Imitating Rooster

After responding to Miss_Leafy's post on getting a wake up call from the neighbor's rooster, I had to post this. We have two roosters along with about 15-17 hens. The roosters wake us up each morning around 6 am most mornings. One of the roosters is a pretty good mimic, as he always mimics the hens as they lay an egg. So throughout the day we can hear hens cackling when they lay followed by one of the roosters with his funny imitation of a hen laying and cackling. It's too funny. Have you ever heard a rooster imitating another animal or chicken? Photo: Pixaby

not that i can recall? 'tis been nearly 40 yrs since i've 'd chickens though. the neighbors've chickens (less one coz this morn a coyote snagged one) 'n their rooster tends to crow'n the mid morn. reckon he's a late sleeper, lol.

That's lucky for you that he doesn't start his business until late in the morning. I used to hate it when they would wake me up when I was working before the alarm clock went off.

@wolfgirl569 Yep, time to go if they get mean. Someone told me to take them by the feet and whirl them around for a bit and that will show them who is the boss. I did that two times...don't know if once on each one or one got it twice, but I didn't have any more problems out of either rooster after that.

I've never heard roosters trying to imitate other sounds. They sound funny when they first start learning to crow.

My hubby thought he was trying to crow and I said no, listen carefully. He's imitating a hen clucking when laying. It is funny. I wonder if he thinks he is going to lay an egg? haha.

The biggest discontent is between the two roosters. I will move one to the other coop as soon as the new hens are of laying age.
