What started out as a promising day ...

... went down the toilet quickly and literally. My day started early. I woke up at 4:14 a.m. and could not get back to sleep. I checked email and the status of my ongoing book promos until the missus woke up. We took the dogs for a walk. The humidity was at 100%, making the walk seem like a long stroll through a steam bath. When we got back to the house, nothing seemed amiss. Then, the missus left for work. Moments later, she was back. "There is water running across the driveway and the lid on the septic tank looks like it is leaking," she announced as I stepped out of the shower. I promised to take care of it and called the septic tank service. The good news is the man has already arrived with his truck. The bad news is, I have no idea what this is going to cost us. So much for the other errands I planned to run this morning. Hopefully, I'll have time to get to them this afternoon. I hope your Monday started/is starting/or does start off better than mine.

I used to get concerned about our tank, back in the day when we had one. Although it was terribly expensive, I was somewhat relieved, as was my husband, when we had to hook up to the municipal sewer system. After that if anything happened, it was just a phone call and we didn't have to necessarily worry about paying for it unless it was on our side of things. I hope that you get off without too much damage. Serves you right for taking a steam bath plus a shower all in one morning.

@DWDavis After the sewer fixers leave I do hope that you get some rain to clean up any mess that might be lingering.

Oh dear, plumbing problems are always expensive - or so it seems to me. I hope that isn't the case here.

I've never met a plumbing problem that didn't turn out to be expensive. This one will be, too.

So did I. But we hoped in vain. We need a new pump, and it won't be cheap.

You have to deal with a septic tank?

Yes. The county water districts promised 20 years ago that we would have a municipal sewer system within 10 years. We're still waiting for them to get started on it.

Sadly, I think it will. Repairs of this type always leave big holes in the budget.

This is the first problem we've had in several years. However, in the future, I will try to remember to schedule a pump out and inspection more often.

I'm afraid septic system repairs always cost too much.
