Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality is advising people to stay out of the water off coastal beaches due to a toxic, blue-green algae bloom. They are also stating that no fish or shellfish should be taken or eaten from those waters. The algae can affect people, pets, fish, shellfish, marine animals and birds.
The algae bloom can cause rashes, stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
These harmful blooms can occur in fresh, salt and brackish water. Climate change and fertilizer run-off are causing these blooms to occur more often.

The picture is just a stock picture from Pixabay of a beach. Not an actual picture of the algae bloom.

Down around Biloxi the water is dark, there was no way in hell I was getting on that water to swim, the gulf is clear blue green water, not that. I would never eat food from there either.
