I thought you might like to see this photo which Vince took last weekend. That’s me on the ground. You can see I'm all rugged up against the cold.
We were at a checkpoint. There is water, hay and carrots available for the horses, and drinks and lollies for the riders. They don’t spend long at the checkpoints but if the horse has even a few mouthfuls of hay and a drink, they are more likely to pass the vet check when they get back to the ride base.
The vet will be checking for gut sounds and signs of dehydration. Luckily they don’t vet the riders as most would fail I think! Certainly some are quite lame when they ‘trot out’.
Trotting out is when the horse is led a short distance at a trot. By standing behind and watching carefully, the vet can see if the horse is lame and favouring one leg.
Vince has doctored the photo from a coloured one. To me, it looks like an old pen and ink drawing.

Uhm... that guy looks awfully heavy to be riding a horse. Just saying... Pretty and I went riding once and the stable that owned the horses wanted to weigh everyone before letting us use their stock. Our scales at home said I weighed 188 lbs but their scale showed I weighed 220 lbs. When I ask about the discrepancy the dude weighing us said most people believed what their scales showed even though they were set 30 lbs heavier than the actual weight.
The sign before the scale said nobody who weighed 230 lbs or above would be allowed to ride their horses as they could cause back strain to the animals.
The photo is interesting... I rarely play with the photos I take, but may start doing that if I can get that kind of results from them.

@JudyEv I guess that could be true, Judy. I didn't think of that.
I grew up riding our horses on the farm. LOL! Some of our neighbors said I was born in a saddle! I really wish Pretty could have had more experience riding since I really loved riding before I left the farm.

@DaddyEvil We did all the sheep and cattle work with horses so I spent many years in the saddle too.

I guess if you're a sloppy or inexperienced rider you could cause harm quite easily. And maybe their horses were lighter in build than some.
In the heavyweight division at these rides, the horses carry a total of 91kg (200lb) or more. That includes rider and all his gear - saddle, etc.Middleweight is 73kg to 91kg and lightweight less than 73kg.

@crazyhorseladycx I know the Tevis Cup endurance ride in America is much more challenging than this one was.

Thanks for the kind words. I make him ask me first before I'll let him put up my photo on FB or wherever.

Yes, that is exactly what it looks like. Did he use photoshop? Adobe creator or what? I am just wondering how he got it to look like that.

@snowy22315 I like this one but some of the coloured ones, just occasionally, look a bit too bright.

Once he started selling photos of the endurance horses, etc, he paid for software called Lightroom. But I'm sure you can do similar with other software. Lightroom will cut out haze and bring things up crisp and clear. Sometimes I think he goes a bit far with a coloured photo and it doesn't look 'real' anymore but that's just my opinion. It's very effective in most cases.
