You May Be Pretty But You Sure Do Stink

I am not that fond of bugs, but I have to say the Picasso Bug is a very pretty bug. The basic color of the looks-like-a-work-of-art Picasso Bug is green. On the Picasso Bug's basic green color are colorful spots that are shaped like rings, along with other designs. The basic green color and the colorful rings on the bug are a warning for predators to stay away. Even though the Picasso Bug is quite pretty, it is wise to not disturb this bug. If disturbed, the Picasso Bug lets off a big stink that smells just awful. Picasso Bugs are found in both subtropical and tropical Africa. Picasso Bugs are related to the brown marmorated stink bug. We have to deal with brown marmorated stink bugs here. Our stink bugs are not colorful at all due to being entirely brown in color. If a bug is going to stink, I would rather have a pretty Picasso Bug stinking up area in which I live. Photo: Alandmanson [CC BY 4.0 creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0)]
Continuing on with my bug series; today's painting is a Picasso Bug painted in watercolour and gouache. If you have any suggestions on any bugs or butterflie...

We have the same kind of stink bugs your area has. If a bug is going to stink, it should be a pretty bug. Are you feeling a bit better today, my friend?

It really is a pretty bug. Not all of them look like the one in the photo due to different colors and designs on the bugs.

@Corbin5 dang 't, we've all the luck, eh? 'round here most thingies 're shades 'f brown 'n greys. a must'n order to survive back'n the day. mercy, i hope such don't happen 'gain, too. 've ya noticed they come'n semi-predictable waves like that? here the fear 's grasshoppers. which've come full force yet 'gain. used to be 'bout e'ery 7yrs, now 'tis more like e'ery 3. the hubs's gone to war with 'em. i tried last summer to convince him such'd be so coz he'd 'llowed all those danged weeds to prosper. i've been battlin' 'em this year (weeds), but there's more'n i can manage. grasshopper ate half the garden. he'll not listen those weed patches're lil grasshopper nymph nurseries 'n once they grow a bit, they move'n to other thingies.

@crazyhorseladycx Oh yes, the grasshoppers. I have seen video footage about the damage those grasshoppers can do. I do hope that stink bugs will skip us this year. Stink bugs like light-colored buildings and our house is entirely constructed of cream-colored bricks with white trim. They covered the entire back of our house.

It is very pretty but it can just stay away. I would be the one to do something wrong and then I would have to deal with the stink.

And, that stink is hard to remove too. The stink bugs here only stink if they are squished.

@velvet53 We have had skunk smell due to our old dog Bo. Bo got skunked 3 times and came indoors and tried to get rid of the skunk smell by rubbing against the wall. Our house was stinky for quite a while. Bowls of vinegar placed around the house and the washing of the wall did help get rid of the stink.

Where I grew up in Wilmington, stink bugs were more common than here in Goldsboro though we do see a few. One landed on me the other evening as I was watering the baby trees. I was very careful not to bother it and let it fly away.

Due to our dog Molly having a doggy door that allows for 24/7 access to our fenced backyard, some stink bugs made their way inside our house. They blend well with furnishings and are hard to spot.

@DWDavis I made sure not to squish one because that is when the stink occurs. I picked them up with a plastic baggie and tossed them back outside. I did not see one on the rug and up it went into the vacuum. Quite a stink from that incident.

I think both male and female are colored since the colors help camouflage the bug from predators. I did not read that just the male is colorful.

The bug's scientific name is Sphaerocoris annulus. Picasso Bug or Zulu Hud Bug are its common names. I seem to prefer the look of the bug over Picasso's works, and I do think a different artist would be a better fit. I would go with the Alexander Calder Bug.
