Swallowtail Butterfly in the Garden

Always enjoy seeing these big beautiful Swallowtail butterflies in the garden every year. They are the biggest butterflies that visit. And there are always black ones and this yellow one. I love seeing both colors. When they spread their wings out, they almost cover the bloom. Photo ©CarolDM2019 I stayed with this one several minutes yesterday while he visited my butterfly bush plants. He went from one bloom to another. So cool to watch the beauties in the garden. It made my day. I forgot about how hot it was and everything else going on. He took me away for awhile. Enjoy your day. Plans for today anyone?

I love when these beautiful creatures appear in my yard. I've tried to photograph them, but they do not sit still enough.

You have to stand still and it takes a few minutes for them to get used to you being there.

@CarolDM Most times I agree this is a great strategy. But I watch them float in over the fence, I do not move, they come down to a flower then they are off back over the fence. I guess the stuff I'm growing doesn't really appeal to them.

We don't have a lot of butterflies in New Zealand, but I do enjoy those that come to the garden. It's a special time just being present with them as they go about their way, isn't it.

I enjoy the butterflies and hummingbirds that come and visit. My 31/2 year old granddaughter loves them too. It is a thrill to watch her and the butterflies and hummingbirds. She is growing up to enjoy nature. Dad, Mom and myself are making sure of this.

@CarolDM It has been awhile hasn't it? I have so much fun with my granddaughter. I love watching her trying to catch a butterfly. She has nets but usually she tries to catch them by hand. They went camping last weekend and she caught her first fish. When the weekend was over she had caught 7 fish.

@CarolDM yer welcome :) i've near 60 pics 'f the butterflies here, none i'd care to share, lol. late eve here 'tis a diff'cult time to plot. we're prone to brilliant sunshine 'n then darkness within 10 minutes. that're the winds're blowin' so. 'tis diff'cult to get pics when thingies 're swirlin' 'round :)

Yes they will, they love the milkweed. Can you share a photo of your milkweed sometime? We have weeds growing closeby and I think it might be milkweed.
