No Can Do But I Played Dumb Blonde

I just got back home and I got nothing done to the car. See when I left last week the guy told me it would need a coil pack later but its all good to go. Within days it was misfiring but no engine light on, that is why I took it in this week. I had parked it for a few days to make sure I did no damage and drove the truck, its a 5 speed and just a lot of work to drive but I will when I have to. When I got their this guy did the... I don`t know what you call it but he informed me it could be a stopped up catalyic converter since I did not change my spark plugs, or I could have a bad motor because I drove it with a bad plug ( this ass told me I could take it home the day I stopped with it skipping and the engine light on!) SO he thought he had me worried but I knew what it was they did not put the coils on and one is going out. An hour later and I could see my car still in the check out bay he came in and got me, then told me it was just misfiring a little but to replace the coil pack would be over $300. Then he said something I was not expecting because I have had NO trouble from this.... He said "your transmission is going out, slipping a little. We don`t repair them we just install new and he gave me a slip of paper with the numbers." It would be more than I paid for the car to put in a new transmission! But here is the thing, there is nothing wrong with it. This is where I REALLY played dumb blonde. I said " Oh no! I just don`t know where I will get the money to fix all this, I need to go home and talk to him and see what we have in the bank, Can I call you later?" He smiled and thank God the fan was blowing away from me so I did not have to smell that stink mouth and he said " yes and I will have to order both parts." I walked out thinking " I will not come back to this Kia service department." See I had told him I needed the car fixed last time before July 3rd. that I had to get Tony to UAB he has cancer so he thinks I am sucker. Umm... No. Ever been treated like this?

@rebelann Now a machine tells them what is wrong, before real mechanics knew by the sound or how it drove.

You wouldn't believe how many auto shops, mechanic shops, and auto dealers prey on women thinking they are easy suckers. Well, actually, yes you would probably believe it because you have experienced for yourself.

@andriaperry But I know you're not dumb when it comes to those sort of things, so you can't be easily fooled like so many other unsuspecting women.

@moffittjc Got that right. But I am good at playing the part of what they "think" I am.

The tire place we used to go to did this often. They kept insisting I had a bad joint on the front of my car. I would just tell them we would deal with it later. After 3 years, they stopped saying anything and this car went over 8 years without having a problem with this. It sucks how car repair places treat women.

Yes they have tried but found out that I was the wrong woman to try and screw with. They soon found out that I knew what I was talking about. Just like you, I don't put up with that crap.

I have never had that kind of trouble. I would try complaining about him to higher ups. I am sure you are not the first he has pulled that on.

@andriaperry For years I was lucky and my uncle fixed what I couldnt. He could also bring the thing home to check why the check engine light was on. When he passed I tried a local guy in LaRue and he was honest. He has sold but they still seem to be very good down there. Do you have an auto zone nearby? The ones here will hook up and see what it says for free.

@wolfgirl569 Yes I went to O`Reily`s they do it free too, when the engine light was on it said number two was not firing and they should have replaced the "old" coil pack too.

I talked to someone and he told me to take it back and insist but I just made an appointment with him, when he fixes it, making sure it needs the coil pack, then I will.

I no longer have a car and I am glad. Many moons ago back in NYC there was something wrong with the car every inspection time and it got to be pretty expensive.

When I took my car for it's state inspection they said it had a leak in the transmission seal. Big bucks or so they thought. My son in law works for a Ford dealership so he took it in, put it on the lift and there's no leak. When it comes to car repairs they think you have sucker written on your forehead. Good for you not falling for their lies.

I'm sure that mechanics, when they see a woman coming, start to see dollar signs flashing. What an a**hole.

It angers me when places think women are stupid. My grand dad and Dad wouldn't let me get my license until I could change a tire, change the oil, spark plugs and check all the fluid levels in the car. Thankful for the life skills they taught me, they have come in handy throughout my life. They always said there will be men in that industry who will try and take advantage simply because I am a girl. Mike and I still do as much as we can to our cars but we do have an honest friend who owns a garage when we can't fix it ourselves. I hope you can find someone you trust who is also honest.

In the old cars I could change the plugs, a nephew taught me when I was in my 20`s and I check all my fluids but I dont know how to change them. I have never changed a tire but I am about to learn.

Auto service centers are like that; they wanted to change everything and purchase new parts instead of having it repaired. A nice friendly auto mechanic is the best.

We've always had "a guy" with whom my husband has had connections. Plus my husband knows his way around engines. It's been a long time since anyone has tried to pull a stunt like that on me.
