Men and Video Games

I understand that boys like to play video games and I even support my boyfriend’s video game enthusiasm. Sometimes I even go out of the way to immerse myself in it to have a common interest with him. But today I draw the line.
This is not the first time that he ignored me because he was playing video games with his cousin. I already told him off a lot of times. We are in a long distance relationship with different time zones and I expect that when I’m awake he’ll set aside that time for us to talk and chat instead of play video games with his cousin. Anyway when I go to sleep they can play all they want since they have almost the same time zone.
I lacked sleep from last night and he knows that. I intended to sleep early today and I was hoping we could talk before that but he ignored me until I said goodnight. I told him off about how I feel like I’m not a priority in his life as I see him stood me off a lot of times for video games.

Maybe it is just my age. I am 46. When I was growing up we had Atari, Intellivision, and Pong. There was not much to write home about and I never played many video games. Even when I got older, into my late 20s, I bought a PS1 and played a couple of games and then left it alone. I just have better things to do with my time I guess. I never got much into video games.

It's not just your boyfriend who has this problem. It affects just about every guy who plays video games. The games just consumer them somehow, and in that moment of being immersed in the game world, nothing else matters. This is precisely why I don't play video games, I don't want it to consume valuable time that I could be spending with other people.

I really don’t mind if he plays it all night. All I ask is he be available when I am awake. Why does he have to play on my wake time? It should be easy for him to know by now that he should set aside that time for me.
I should not need to ask him to.

@flapiz I agree with you. Make relationship time the priority. Then video game time can come after that.

@moffittjc Exactly. All I ask is an hour or 3 at max. I’m not even that high maintenance. I don’t ask for material stuff just time.

Tell him you're playing video games yourself as a way to attract his attention. If the situation doesn't change, tell him it's 'Game Over' for him...

Exactly. I can’t whack my boyfriend with a pillow to pay attention to me. All I can do is phone tantrum which is not really effective.

Looks like he ran out of passion with you or something. Now, he wants to have a flash back at his youth. I think you need to talk to him.

I refused to answer his phone call because I was so annoyed. When I confronted him and said he doesn’t prioritise me he said, it’s not a matter of priority it’s a matter of being busy playing video games.

Your boyfriend may wake up someday you are no longer there to pamper his interest of videos than giving 100% support to your relationship. I also do not like that kind of ignoring a feeling of someone loved. Better have a heart to heart talk with him or let him be the one to suggest time of your chat not you.Don't beg my dear you are smart, a nurse and beautiful.

He told me I could’ve just asked to call but how can I when he did not even answer my text messages. I told him the exact same thought you’re saying. “I’m getting tired of not being a priority. Someday you’ll wake up and I’m gone.”
I can accept if it was a more pressing matter but ignoring me for video games? He has got to grow up.
