Sunday 14th July - I returned to the city centre to use the library and buy in some basic foods. It all looked rather empty and quiet after yesterday's exciting vibrant Viking re-enactment show. Monday 15th July - My mum phoned to tell me she has a new phone and number. I had hoped to visit her in Manchester on Saturday and Sunday but she is away herself visiting friends that weekend. Today was finally the book trader was coming to inspect and potentially buy the heap of old porno-mags languishing in my attic. I hadn't seen any of these as I have no ladder to get in the attic with but loft insulators described an extensive hoard. The trader arrived in a van, with two friends to assist him. Once they got into the dark loft they were disappointed that the hoard was only about ten boxes of magazines, and that half of the content was old worthless cycling magazines. I realized that I wasn't going to get much money from this, and my dream of visiting Dublin in Mid-August was crushed. One of the assistants was very rude to me, telling the others loudly in front of me that it was a waste of time inviting them out and that I should get no money at all. If not for the other two being much more pleasant I would have ordered him out of my home. As it happens the owner of the shop buying the magazines was more generous to me and for what they got, he gave me a good cash price. Tuesday 16th July - I took the money from the sale of the magazines to the bank, and headed to the community centre for the day. Later in response to a letter alerting me to it, I joined a local community neigbourhood forum online, this is exclusive to citizens of North Preston where I live. Arthur Chappell

You are lucky that you paid you, we gave away old model railroad magazines for free, just to get rid of them. I am glad that two of them at least were nice people.

@LadyDuck I know someone into model trains who might have loved those - never good to part with things we like

@arthurchappell We have sell the full collection of toy trains of my husband last year. They were in Italy in the apartment of my mother. We were lucky to find two collectors.

I detest rude people. I'm glad the owner of the shop was pleasant.

@LindaOHio yes, I was careful not to tell him I found his friend was so mean as it might have harmed the sale - unlikely to see them again which I am glad about
