My dads birthday is this weekend, my cousin is having a baby shower the same day. We are planning just for my aunt, mom , my dad , and some kids over for a lunch/dinner. My cousin is upset I am not coming to the shower, well no way can I with the birthday. Also not sure if will be hot or cold this day, but the baby shower is at the reservoir, out doors so he can bbq for the guests. I wouldn't be able to sit in the heat. So the location is not good for me, but will send a gift later. Still months away from the baby coming. Cousin is still upset, but nothing I can do. this is a coed baby shower. Lately they have a shower where both parents are present, I am noticing this more.

i think you can come to your cousin's first, be there for a while and then tell them your dad is having a birthday, so you should get yourself there. i think ur cousin would understand that

My cousins start at 3, will be cooking and eating by then. My cousin shower is across town, not at there house. So won't work, my dad goes to bed a little early, so we had to get a time, that works for him, and his aunt to eat and our family.

She must understand that it’s your Father’s Birthday.

They will get it over it, at least I hope. My dad is going to be 82, so I need to be here.

@JustBhem Yes, I think so , I just can't worry about it, he will have to get over it it. I forgot to mention, that I haven't seen the cousins over a year.

Unless they are close by you can't be two places at one time!

nope, I am not up to running all over, I have slowed down a bit.. They will just have to get over it, I am sure there will be a lot of people there.

The birthday of your father is more important, I cannot understand how your cousin does not understand.

I think people want what they want, and don't care about nothing else.

Naturally, your own daddy’s birthday should come first, no matter what. Hope he has a wonderful birthday.

Of course, your father must come first. I'm surprised your cousin is quite this selfish.

They are young, and just don't think I guess.

@CookieMonster46 I think you're right but it's still pretty sad.

I could understand your cousin perhaps being a little disappointed, but he should still understand that you can't be in two places at once. Unfortunately that's just the way it is.

Not everyone can make it to planned events. My very good friend couldn't make it to my baby shower - bummer - but I wasn't upset over it. There were plenty of people around to make it a joyous occasion - and it will be that way for your cousin - I hope she can find it in her heart to understand that you need to be there for your dad.

It is so sad that family do not think about others, my Aunt recently did something very similar, she knew we had my Nieces Birthday that day, just she planned her wedding for that day.... My Niece was very upset about it to, but she decided herself that we should go to the wedding and just celebrate her birthday party another day.

that's terrible, but no I won't feel like being in two place or trying to. We won't change the day of his birthday celebration.

This is the situation of right vs right when you have to choose between 2 alternatives.

Well I got to put my dad first in this case, I suggested they come here for some food and cake after.. But I know they won't come.
