This is Moth Week

Someone decided this week is officially Moth Week. Works for me. I have many moth photos I have taken over the years I can share with you. With more than 160,000 species of moths around the world, moths outnumber butterfly species roughly 10 to 1. Most moths only come out at night, with a few exceptions. The hummingbird hawk moth in my garden is seen during the day. I love seeing this little insect. His wings spin like a helicopter going from bloom to bloom. This makes it a challenge to get a photo. But with some patience I got a photo in Dustin's garden on the butterfly bush. Photo ©CarolDM2019 I have been watching these moths for the past several days in the garden. Such cool insects. They have the same color as a bumble bee, but look more like a hummingbird, but smaller. Have you seen one of these hummingbird moths before?

I don't mind moths except for gypsy moths. Those caterpillars terrified me as a child.

@CarolDM if I saw that in a garden I wouldn't even think it's a moth

Yes, we've seen a hummingbird hawk moth before. It was an unusual sighting for us. I noticed it was on the Bing page today. Quite a great shot. (Equal to your pictures!) I don't see a picture here!

@LindaOHio Yes, it may be a little closer making it look bigger. They are smaller than a butterfly but bigger than a bee.

They are very cool to see. Bing is where I saw the article. As I told Angie, I took it down. I spent awhile trying to get that photo and felt it wasn't appreciated. A little sensitive today for some silly reason.

I know, the colors are like a bumble bee but they look like a small hummingbird. Very cool to watch. Their wings spin so fast.

That is an amazing photo - catching the moth with his wings out. I can imagine it would have taken some patience, as you say.
