You End Up With What You Put Up With

Words of wisdom for sure. If you put up with bad behavior, whether it's from a child or an adult, that is what you will end up with. Keeping quiet and accepting bad behavior doesn't change anything; so you are stuck with it. Photo Credit: Love This Pic

Most definitely. Years ago, my mum was asked by a neighbour why we (my sisters and I) were so well-behaved. The neighbour had a child about 10 years younger than me. Frankly, she was a brat. My mum said something along the lines of 'you have to start when they're young'. I will say that a 2 year old who is not disciplined will turn into a 12 year old who is not disciplined. Some people are very much under the impression that certain ages naturally do certain things and will naturally grow out of it. Of course, there are some things like 2 year olds may well have tantrums but that's when you need to tell them and teach them.

I know the parents of 2 young kids. These kids get wound up and unruly. Instead of the parents nipping things in the bud and putting a stop to the nonsense, both parents would just sit there with this dumb look of defeat all over their faces. Then they would say; 'we're used to it.' Oh brother, give me a break. The only reason that they were used to it was because they allowed their own kids to determine what behavior is acceptable.

Cut a few out of my life that just never learned I would not put up with it. They were in the habit of others putting up with it.

This is so true. I decide awhile back no more. And that has been the end of the drama.

I wanted to bring up substance abuse, verbal abuse and physical abuse; but I thought that was a bit too serious for this venue.

That is very true and a very good point. If you don't like bad attitude or bad behaviour, you shouldn't put up with it.
