I had something to discuss,

I really did have an idea for a discussion, but it disappeared while I was eating.
Maybe it was about my volunteer cucumber vine.
It grew a small, fat cucumber while we were gone. I think it did not get enough water, because parts of it were bitter. Not as bad as some I have had though.
I peeled and chopped the cucumber, diced some yellow onion, some celery and then halved some grape tomatoes.
Salt and vinegar help cut the bitterness, so I poured dill pickle juice over it. Added some celery salt and lastly stirred in sour cream for a creamy cold salad.
Hubby loved it.
So volunteer garden plants may have been what I wanted to discuss.
Besides the volunteer weeds, I do have this volunteer cucumber and it is still blooming. I will keep it watered and I may get a decent crop.

It would take a lot of work and water to get them to grow, I guess.

You're right @GardenGerty I would need a green house to grow veggies but those are expensive.

Today we had a handful of radishes for salad, right from the garden. I don“t know how they survived the cold temperatures, but maybe that was the reason why they were very small. Still they were delicious and not a grain of pesticides.

Radishes sometimes like cooler temps, but I guess you are full into your winter there.

I am thinking I need to eat some of the weeds. I need to spend more time outdoors and less time online.

@GardenGerty The birds here seem to be enjoying the weeds and things in the yard - so I won't invade their territory
. I can certainly understand needing to be less online . . . I'm a culprit of that too

My hubby is only picky about not eating pasta, but I can live without that. This cucumber is just like last years. It does not grow as I expected but it makes a good veggie anyway.

volunteer garden?
A community garden ran by volunteers?
I love cucumbers but have not had any at all this season.

I just have a few veggies in tubs in the back yard. The cucumber I had last year evidently dropped some full grown in the weeds, so it is volunteer. The community garden is struggling due to the flooding this year.

Take a paintbrush out and cross pollinate, maybe? Or maybe they do not set fruit when it is hot?
