I hope I will not stink

For the longest time I was using Tom's of Maine deodorant but it required a lot of applications and I wasn't a fan of the scent. I switched back to using suave but I've noticed that my armpits are more sensitive and do not seem to like that product so much. I personally don't like using deodorants with aluminium in them. Today I bought an Equate (Walmart) Beauty Aluminium Free deodorant and I will see how that works for me. I intend to always carry the suave just in case, but I'm hoping this deodorant will work, will last longer, and will not make me feel as if I stink. I've used deodorants that were homemade (not by myself) but even they didn't work so well... It's a trial just trying to make healthy (conscious) decisions about my beauty regime.

I use the same mentioned by @much2say a mineral salt deodorant crystal. I have very sensitive skin, most deodorants give me problems.

@LadyDuck If you don't mind me asking a personal question, how often to you apply it throughout the day? I find that I do have to reapply at least a couple times if not more.

I went to etsy last night and looked up a few of these. I am thinking about purchasing this if the deodorant I just bought does not suffice.

@much2say I also have to apply twice a day, it does not last as much as the commercial deodorant sticks.

There was a gal on the old Bubble site that said to use milk of magnesia on your pits. I do. If I use anything. No fragrance, no aluminum, has a drying effect. I also use it anywhere I tend to chafe. Just a note, they use it in hospitals/nursing homes to dry up oozing wounds.

Oh, really? Hmm. That's interesting. I've never thought of using that. So it dries sweat as it forms?

I, too am very sensitive to deodorants. Years ago I had such a bad reaction that I had to walk around with my hands clasped over my head. That's how bad the breakout was. I've found that to be the case even with so called natural deodorants as well. As far as antiperspirants are concerned, forget it, I won't touch them at all. I don't believe in blocking pores at all. How else will toxins leave the body? I use an all natural body lotion as my deodorant. For the most part, it seems to do well.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I use a lotion that you can't get in stores, you have to get it through an independent distributor. Even though I am a distributor, I don't get into the selling of the product line. The company is USANA Health Sciences. They are one of the very best. Thanks for the tip on witch hazel. I'll have to keep that one in mind.

I've been just trying to find out what works best for me. I do not use deodorant UNLESS I am going to leave the house, and i am wondering if that's partially why I've had irritation lately. That and going from natural deodorant to aluminium again.. I've been cleaning my armpits with witch hazel after I get home now, just to get the deodorant off and hopefully stop the irritation before it gets too bad. What lotion do you use? I actually thought about using just coconut oil. I have that and mango butter that I could melt together and put in an old tube of deodorant.

@betlynfrnds Oh, I'm not sure I've heard of that. We have Herballife here, but I've not tried any of their products. I usually go on etsy if I don't make whatever it is myself. I first used witch hazel to get rid of a rash, but I keep it around since it's a mild astringent.

Believe it or not, this topic is up for me as well--but I am looking for a deodorant--not an antiperspirant--not packaged in plastic--and I am having a devil of a time finding something that I like--

Go To Etsy. You might be paying a little more, but I am certain you'll find a seller who uses glass, or can use glass if you so ask.

I use the same brand that didn’t work for you. Long lasting unscented by Tom of Maine’s

@infatuatedbby There are so many products we use that has scent in them. I don't always use lotion, so the deodorant that's scented helps me feel as if I smell abit better, especially if my perfume wears off.

The one I got wasn't unscented. It was probably half the scent that made me feel as if it didn't work. The kind I use now (the walmart brand) works well, but I might need to be sure to reapply it once more than usual.

I watched a video on youtube once about how people in China have different sweat glands or something like that. They do not stink as bad as other countries do. I mean no disrespect but latinos really stink when they sweat.

@JustBhem I think it is to do with the spices that are used in cooking. Indian cuisine has it's own sort of spice as do the latinos.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Really? I never encounter anyone of them, but we have people here from India. No offense meant, some of them have this awful scent.

Are you saying you'd rather use powder, or powder scented?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Hubby always liked Shower to Shower powder, but does not use anything cause he was afraid of the talc in it. I have read recipes that use baking soda, white rice flour and cornstarch. Essential oils if you like or fragrance free.

@GardenGerty I made up a powder a few years ago that I use on occasion. It is made of baking soda and arrow root powder with a bit of essential oil.

I use a mineral salt deodorant stone/crystal. With everything they say about the normal deodorants, I've stopped using them from a couple or so years ago too. I've tried the spray, but I do like the stone more. But I might use it a couple or more times a day though . . . the less chemical stuff doesn't last as long.

I have never heard of the mineral salt deodorant stone / crystal. I'll have to look that up. It's not so much the application that I am concerned about (I'd do it every hour, honestly, if I had to) but the scent was just. It made me feel like I stunk more for some reason. Did you detox your armpits before you went to the mineral salt deodorant?

@ScribbledAdNauseum My friend told me about it in the 90s. I thought it was some weird hippy stuff - but she claimed it worked and that it was natural - but I didn't think to use it until recent years. It's like a clear-ish stone - you wet it and apply. No residue or fragrance. I use a store brand as it's the cheapest. I like it - but remember it's not an ant-perspirant. There is a spray/spritzer one too (mineral salt and water pretty much) but I didn't find that as effective. I sort of detoxed. I used a benzonite clay (comes power form). I can't remember if I used just water or a teeny bit of apple cider vinegar (which I have used on my face - just not the eye area). But apparently people even drink this stuff (that I have not tried).

@much2say Yes, I've heard about using benzonite clay for detoxing the armpits but even that is controversial. As for Apple Cider Vineger, did you know stores even carry ACV that you can drink? Yes, I have drank it, and no it's not that bad. I don't drink it anymore, I drink Kombucha which I think is better. I will see if I can find it somewhere, maybe a natural food store around here. I'm going to try this equate beauty deodorant first, but I'm open to trying anything.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah because my Mom told me that I don't have to use deodorant if it not stinks and she told me when I was young that it's not good to use deodorant, I think if my armpit has a bad odor I will use Deo... and I've read some posts about the negative sides of deo for women.

@raveeen Yes, if it has aluminium in it, it's bad for you. That is why I am trying to find one without aluminium that works better.
